Japanese word for "must have, must buy"? Gairaigo?

Hello! Anyone know the Japanese shopaholic word for a must have or must buy or have to have item or purchase? I remember seeing it somewhere and it seemed a loan word, but none of the online gairaigo lists have it.

What do Japanese (women perhaps) that find a hot item that they just have to buy call it? I remember seeing something resembling the English words must have or something like that, but my memory is vague so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you very much.

That's easy.:)

マストアイテム

Dictionaries wouldn't have it because the word is relatively new.

Thanks! Would that spell out as "masutoaitemu" or?

Yes, it would. A hot word lately, indeed.

That's interesting! I've never heard that word before (although I don't really go shopping too much... even when I do I don't think I go to a store with any マストアイテムs).

I always find it interesting how there are words/phrases like this that pop up in Japanese. They obviously come from English but aren't actually correct in English. Although someone like yourself, Sashimister, obviously knows the difference, I've talked to many Japanese people who I guess assume those words are straight English.

I've been compiling a list of these words to make a guide for people to use (might make some videos to have pronunciation included). I'm definitely gonna add this one to the list!
