Idiosyncrasies of typing Japanese -
01-22-2011, 12:11 AM
Hi, yet again,
I've had some questions about typing Japanese. I had already figured out the "little hiragana character" situation a while ago (e.g. te + x + i = ティ). Likewise, I know that pressing F7 converts my hiragana to katakana (e.g. まいく + F7 = マイク). I have also recently learned that on non-Japanese keyboards, ALT + ~ switches the input from romaji to hiragana when you are already in Japanese IME mode. Now, can someone please tell me how the heck I can type the interpunct? That's the "middle of the line dot" that we use to separate foreign fords, for example (e.g. my last name and first name: クメルニツキー·マイク). Where the hell is "·" on the keyboard? Secondly, how do I type づ?! "tsu" gives me つ. "zu" gives me ず. How do I get it to display づ? Lastly, if anyone out there has any other Windows IME (romaji > Japanese) typing advice, please point me in the right direction. Cheers, -- Mike |

===================================================== ぢ = di ヴ = vu ゑ = we (You have to press space to convert because it is not in use anymore) ゐ = wi (You have to press space to convert because it is not in use anymore) As you already know x + kana gives you a small version. This also works with l + kana: l + tu = っ This isn't so useful in most cases I think, but You can also type different symbols normally by typing a related word. For example: ♪ = おんぷ ♭ = ふらっと Or you can convert おんがく to any music symbols ★ = ほし These ones might be more useful to you: My \ and key gives me ¥ 「」= [] You can convert these to【】『』etc To get … convert ・・・ You can convert numbers, for example: ①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨ And for a huge list of lots of symbols convert きごう Last but not least, although I assume you already know, you can press Esc to cancel kanji conversions etc. |
