Looking for a Translation :) -

Hello everyone!
I will be getting a tattoo soon and i am look for an expert to please help me! I wanted "Family" in Japanese on my forearm.. What i have is ファミリー i would like to make sure that is a correct translation. Any help would be great! Thank you! -Taki |

I'm new to this forum, but my Japanese credentials are more than decent.
ファミリー is NOT a good tattoo. I will tell you why: ファミリー is katakana, which is generally used for foreign names of things. The Japanese word for "family" is 家族 as mentioned before... but... In Japanese the tattoo, either way, doesn't make much sense. "Why get a tattoo of that?" -- Japanese would think -- unless they're suitably Westernized. So, let's think a bit about what you actually mean... respect your family, honor your family, be faithful to your family? If you care about the tattoo making cultural sense to the native Japanese then you should consider changing your plan. If you don't care, then ファミリー is just as good as 家族 or anything else. I love tats, so I'm ready to help if you want. |
