ファミリー technically does mean 'family' but it's also the same characters as they use for Familymart convenience stores. Just sayin'.

Yes, ファミリー is family. If you want, kanji is 家族 ("kazoku").

Hi. It will change depending on what family you mean. It will be 家族 if you mean the real (genetically) family. But if when it is "family" like gangster or mafia family, it would be 一家, or 一門 These are more like sworn family, or a group which each members share the same destiny.

I'm new to this forum, but my Japanese credentials are more than decent.
ファミリー is NOT a good tattoo. I will tell you why:
ファミリー is katakana, which is generally used for foreign names of things. The Japanese word for "family" is 家族 as mentioned before... but...

In Japanese the tattoo, either way, doesn't make much sense. "Why get a tattoo of that?" -- Japanese would think -- unless they're suitably Westernized.

So, let's think a bit about what you actually mean... respect your family, honor your family, be faithful to your family?

If you care about the tattoo making cultural sense to the native Japanese then you should consider changing your plan. If you don't care, then ファミリー is just as good as 家族 or anything else.

I love tats, so I'm ready to help if you want.
