Japanese Literature

I have been searching the Internet Looking for different types of Japanese Literature.

What I'm looking for is a list of the type of Literature that they Teach in school.

Starting from Middle School Thru High School. Maybe even a couple of titles that they teach at College Level.

If you can help, I would also like you to e-mail me the list at [email protected].

源氏物語 Geiji monogotari was taught at my university. its a retelling of a Hikaru Geiji's life, son of an emperor.
its a long novel. made in 11th century, it was the world's first novel.

also you could have a look at "Kokoro", "Hell screen" and "No longer human". all classic Japanese stories.

@OP Good luck with reading through the literature such as Genji without any explanatory notes. It is written i historical Japanese, not to mention it is a kana calligraphy...

I hope you have a good grasp on the contemporary Japanese language or else you can forget about reading the classical literature.

Just as many others would not, I would not want to use email for this.

The authors that Japanese students are most often required to read from include:
川端靖成
芥川龍之介
三島由紀夫
森鴎外
夏目漱石
志賀直哉
太宰治
島崎藤村
武者小路実篤
大岡昇平
林芙美子
司馬遼太郎
大江健三郎

Thank you Masaegu and everyone else

I'm only at an intermediate level, but I have my kana down. I'm still working on my kanji though, but I expect that. Kanji will probably take a little longer.

Sorry, but let me explain. I'm looking for the Japanese versions not the English versions. If I got the English versions it wouldn't help me Learn Japanese. Plus, finding the type of literature that they teach in Japanese schools would probably help me understand Japanese culture. I want to start looking for the books now, because it's probably rare to find here in the US.

ありがとうございます
マサエグ

If there is any more suggestions out there please let me know. Masaegu if you spell your ID name using Kanji let me know.

This is helpful for me, too. Thanks. The Japanese authors I've read include 谷崎潤一郎, 大江健三郎, and the more modern 村上春樹 and 吉本ばなな.

I want to try to read 雪国 in Japanese eventually. I've read some 村上春樹 and 水上勉 in Japanese.
