Japanese Names
Hi, I'm new here. I have some fictional characters with japanese names. I want to know how to pronounce them,I'm not good at pronouncing japanese words...:o
Akemi Nakamura Speaking of Akemi,is that a guy's name or a girl's name? Cause I named my male character Akemi..:o I was told that Akemi was guy's name but seen alot of female characters with that name..... Akishino and Takahiro Thanks.:) |

Nakamura = nah-kah-moo-ra Akishino = ah-kee-shee-no Takahiro = tah-kah-hee-ro You mean like that? And yes, Akemi is in most cases a girl's name, but it depends largely on which kanji you use to spell out the name; if you use the kanji which Debezo has described, then it would indeed be masculine. |

![]() This is just example and can be unisex. Almost Japanese people(and me) will say 'Akemi sounds feminine'. though, there are a few guys 'Akemi' actually.Akemi can be a man's name while a typical woman's name. but a typical woman's name 'Hanako' can not be a man's name.A few kanjis and a few sounds are used for the specific gender. well it's hard to explain how that's named in Japan. |
Even written as 暁海, EVERYONE I ask says it`s a female name. In fact, they have all said that they would feel sorry for a guy with that name.
So, I would say it`s pretty unanimously a female name. |
Thanks, everyone for their feedback!!!:D
