Learning (Fluent) Japanese. Teachers? Websites?
 

I see some of the websites here, but they aren't teaching you the whole language.
What about learning everything?
Like if you were to take it in school?
What about learning speaking and understanding fluently and not just little phrases?
What if you want to know the responses you get in Japan?

That was my problem. I want to learn Japanese fluently, not only, "Watashi no namae wa Ashiyui desu." :rolleyes: Putting it into practice, and study sheets, you know.
Is there somewhere you can do that online? Or is that only possible with another person teaching you?

I think we're about in the same situation. Right now I'm really trying to learn the whole language through self study. I'm not sure if there are any online sites that could teach you to speak it fluently though. I'm using the Genki 1 textbook right now which is what I believe some colleges use to teach japanese. You're supposed to use with the cd and workbook with it that are sold seperately, unfortunately, and so far I think its the best thing I've come across for self study and I'm just using the book right now.

How many text books are there?

In the genki series there are 2. I've also heard that Nakama is also good but I haven't looked into it myself. Other than that I'm not sure how many other textbooks there are.

Have you ever tried that Pimsluer? I heard they're suppose to be good...

I haven't tried Pimsluer yet but I've also heard that its supposed to be good and it should be for how much it costs.

Well I don't think you're supposed to but I don't think that anyone would care that much if you did. You can always go back and edit your posts to change or add more to your last post too.

Yeah I'm used to that at Animechains.net. But I know some forums allow that's why I asked.

How much was your Geki or whatever text book? And the CDs and practice papers extra?

You can learn a decent amount of Japanese on your own... However, you'll never become fluent without a tutor or a class. There are many nuances about the Japanese language that you just can't learn from a book. Even with intensive classes, it can take several years to become fluent in Japanese -- imagine how long it would take to learn all of it by yourself.

I will say that I too have used the Genki textbooks for my classes a few years back. They're pretty good books, and I liked them, but they're only the beginning - there's only two books, and no more. It may take over a year or two just to master and memorize everything in these books.
