"Yoshidome" surname meaning -
05-29-2018, 04:07 AM
Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me with the kanji for the last name "Yoshidome." I've looked it up and come across 2 frequent answers: 吉留 and 吉止. Is either one more common for a surname? I've read that 吉留 is also a place name. And of course, I understand that kanji can have multiple similar (or different!) meanings, so if someone were to choose this surname, is there a specific meaning they'd be trying to convey? Thank you very much for any help you can offer! |

See this page.
"YOSHI" can be "佳:KEI;good, beautiful", "吉:KICHI;good luck" or "由:YOSHI;(good) reason". "DOME" can be "留:RYU;keep staying", "止:SHI;stop” or "畄:tome;???". As "YOSHI" means something good, "止" would no be used in the surname. "YOSHIDOME" woul likey be "佳留" or "吉留" and used in FUKUOKA prefecture.
