Is this ok?

watashi wa ringo kuu tai. - romaji
わたし わ りんご くう たい。 - hiragana
i want to eat apple. - english

Is it ok to speak like that? I mean, does it even sound normal to Japanese lol...? I pieced it up using what i have picked up so far lol...

masaegu 10-23-2007 09:39 AM

No, it doesn't sound normal. But I like your post because you did your best.

Real Japanese : 私はりんごが食べたい。

Hiragana : わたしはりんごがたべたい。

Romaji : Watashi wa ringo ga tabetai.

Remember that the particle 'wa' is written as 'ha' in hiragana, but it's pronounced as 'wa'.

As Masaegu rightly suggests "taberu" is much more commonly used and the word you want to be worrying about as a beginner, but using the word "kuu" {extremely crude/casual} you would say:-

りんごがくいたい
ringo ga kuitai
"I want to eat an apple".

note: "kuu" is a very rough word, you should avoid using it in polite conversation.

I see, no wonder konichiwa is written as こにち. I've been wondering for a while and i thought the writer made a mistake lol.

Hmm... tabe does sound better than kuu.

ありがとう ございます!
arigatou gozaimasu!

Sorry I'm correcting all the time, but the correct phrase is:

こんにちは ( five kana )

Konnichiwa ( double n )

I see, maybe i can use it jokingly lol...

minna! ringo ga man kuu tai!
みんな! りんご が まん くう たい!
everyone! i want to eat 10,000 apples!

Here, ringo and ga is a noun each, man kuu tai are the verb, am i right?

Does that sound ok? I mean, in a less serious context like talking to a close friend. Of course i won't try to tell a stranger that i want to eat 10,000 apples lol...

ga is a subject marker not a noun. but for this you want to say o which is an object marker.

mon, ringo o kuu tai.
まんりんごをくう たい!

Like Masaegu, I like your ambition.

One of the hardest things in Japanese for native English speakers is counters.

Five apples isn't ご りんご

It is りんご ごこ (りんご五個)

Five people

ひと ごにん (人五人)

Five fingers

ゆび ごほん (指五本)

Fun stuff, huh?
