Can anyone tell me what this movie is called?
 

When I was little, I used to watch this anime movie they broadcast on TV, I loved it but now I'm older, I totally forgot what its called so if I describe the movie, I hope someone can help me figure it out! Btw, I may have gotten some bits wrong cos it was ages ago.

The main character in the movie is a boy with a dog who lives with his grandad, they are extremely poor but the boy can draw well and is friends with this girl who will end up being a nun. One day the windmill the boy was working in caught on fire and he was blamed for it. The boys grandad dies and he is left homeless, he enter an art competition but loses. In the end, he and his dog dies in a church.

I remember it being really sad but because it was on TV almost every year its kind of a part of my childhood so I'll be really grateful if you can help!
