Bunraku with Gackt and Josh Hartnett!
 

In the U.S. in 2009, a spaghetti western titled "Bunraku" is to be shown in theatres. It will star Josh Hartnett as a drifter and j-rock singer Gackt Camui as his partner, Yoshi, who is a samurai.

Any new info or speculation on this?

My dad says it sounds like "Shanghai Noon", with it being a western with an asian fighter and stuff. I just hope it's good. They just finished filming it in Romania. It is supposed to have a cool look to it, similar to "300" and "Sin City".

I wish Gackt had a bigger role, though. He is only co-starring! He should be the main character. Oh well. At least he's in it! Yay! :rheart:

Although, considering they're making it phantasmal, shouldn't they use fighters with experience? Like.. Maybe Tak Sakaguchi instead of Gackt?

Gackt knows some martial arts. I don't know how good he is, but he does know some. I read that Guy Moshe, the guy directing the movie, personally went to Japan and asked Gackt to play the part of Yoshi. He had seen him play in Fuurin Kazan in Japan and thought he would be perfect for the part. Gackt finally accepted, so that's why he has the part.

I don't really know any of the other actors. My dad does, though, and says they are really popular. I'm curious about seeing more pictures and finding out a rating on this film.

It's not a 'spaghetti western'.

Demi Moore
Woody Harrelson

it might work...

I know Josh Hartnett is really popular in the US, but I'm gonna see it just for Gackt. And I don't know how much martial arts he knows, but he had to do some action stuff for Moon Child as well, so it's not like he's not used to getting his hands dirty.

I have high expectations. I just wish they'd have chosen a person with a LOT of martial arts experience, I guess... >.> Personal opinion. Don't hate.

Although, Gackt has done work for..... Moon Child, and he was the character model, and did all the moves for Lau in the video game, Bujingai. So.... I guess he'll do. : P

All right, I looked him up, and he is not bad looking. Definetly in the pretty boy category.

Btw, what are your thoughts on Josh Hartnett? I haven't really seen many of his movies and don't have an opinion.

He was a favorite character in Sin City. He played noir really well.

I've never really paid attention to his career though, so I'm not the best person to ask.

I can't really see him in a mystical action adventure though..

Oh. Interestingly, bunraku is a type of puppet theater in Japan.

Yeah, just looked at his filmography. Not much, cept Sin City, Pearl Harbor, and Black Hawk Down. Never saw Sin City or Pearl Harbor and don't remember much about Black Hawk Down, but Bunraku really doesn't seem to fit his typeset. Maybe he's trying to branch out?

I guess. But it's not really a spaghetti western.

The director said he was making it much more fantastic than that.

I should hope so! Weren't spaghetti westerns popular like twenty years ago? When Clint Eastwood was still doing them?

I'm a fan of spaghetti westerns.

But I don't think half of these actors will be good in one.

There was just a video online of Gackt dancing on the set of Bunraku, but it was removed because of copyright reasons. Although I did manage to find it on one site, but you have to download it to see it, otherwise it's extremely distorted. I didn't download it, but it looked like through the distortion that Gackt dances in a circle and I could hear someone (Gackt?) laugh and a small amount of clapping.

There was this photo of Gackt as Yoshi covered in blood or something >> but they removed it from his and Bunraku livejournal communities for some japanese law about kids or something. Somebody have it? I'm interested what was so outraging (lol) about that photo.

I'm an ex-fan of Gackt, I've gone from fawning over him like virtually every other female that's heard his voice to being totally scared of him. But I still must see this out of curiosity -^-, I'm pathetic.
