again,... your super sentai favorite poll
it's another turnover for super sentai show. for its 35th sentai, we got a new pirate theme. so I wondering what is everyone favorite. here list of super sentai, and here a small blog post that can refresh some of mind.
for those not familiar with Super Sentai, it is the source for Power Ranger, every year the Japanese channel produce the series/franchise and then US tv channel (I think it's Saban company) converted the franchise into US version. It got different feel, so please not mixed up. btw, of 34 titles, I only manage to compiled nine of them in the poll and one OTHERS, so please pardon this selection |
haha... no sentai fans around? come on, you can't be too old for sentai...:mtongue:

I just wondered if perhaps you Westernised the names on your poll/thread, to that of the Western equiviliants of the 'sentai', if you would perhaps get more responses? It's just when Power Rangers/Sentai came out I was a kid, and I think most people who watched the show would have been children too, and so I wonder how likely it is that a western child watching a western show would know the Japanese counterpart or its name. To be honest I had no idea it even was based on a Japanese show until recently. I'm not saying the Western equivilant is superior, just that by westernising the discussion you might get a few more replies, because more people will have an understanding. |
well, seem like my "worry" is correct, the board is majority by non sentai member, eg. western. it's ok, I think this thread can be for general sentai/p.r. talk. Here what I try to answer your inquiry, the Power ranger tradition started on sentai title "Zyuranger". I edit this from wikipedia :
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 93-95 used footage, costumes, and props from three of the Super Sentai Series: Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger for season 1, Gosei Sentai Dairanger for season 2, and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger for season 3 Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers 96 - Kakuranger Power Rangers Zeo 1996 - Ohranger. Power Rangers Turbo 1997 - Carranger Power Rangers in Space 1998 - Megaranger. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy 1999 - Gingaman. Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue 2000 - GoGoFive. Power Rangers Time Force 2001 - Timeranger. Power Rangers Wild Force 2002 - Gaoranger Power Rangers Ninja Storm 2003 - Hurricaneger. Power Rangers Dino Thunder 2004 -Abaranger Power Rangers S.P.D. 2005 - Dekaranger Power Rangers Mystic Force 2006 - Magiranger. Power Rangers Operation Overdrive 2007 - Boukenger. Power Rangers Jungle Fury 2008 - Gekiranger Power Rangers RPM 2009- Go-onger Power Rangers Samuraito premiere in early 2011 - Shinkenger to what I remember the MMPR was the one I follow closely. I read that some of middle season is not very succesful due to vague adaptation, but thing started up after the Wild Force season. I heard the last season RPM is quite succesful also. |
I watched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and very old seasons of Super Sentai that was shown in Brazil, Dai Sentai Goggle V, Choushinsei Flashman, Hikari Sentai Maskman and the Dengeki Sentai Changeman, known here only as Changeman, this season of super sentai is very famous here and I think that is the most loved between the Brazilian fans. Probably who was child here in the end of 80 decade and the begin of 90 decade watched one those seasons.
Few years ago I remember that I watched on TV a crossover episode of Power Rangers talking about their japanese version, the Super Sentai. I really don't remember what season was that. |
I really dunno if there is a cross over (in cameo) of PR and SS.
Google V is famous in here as well (SE Asia), it is the only completed sentai put in VHS/Beta format back in 80s. |
i only ever watched one or two power rangers
it was either mighty morphin power ranger or mighty morphin alien rangers. it was so incredible at the time.:D ooh ohh, something interesting i just realised Johnny Yong Bosch was a power ranger in mighty morphin power Rangers. |
They still make this crap? I thought the Power Rangers dead in the 90's.
|
yesterday premiered of 2011 sentai, Gokaiger. It will be the 35th anniversary edition with cameo of all previous show appeared thru this year.

I was actually suprised this thread existed! I haven't seen that many. I like Boukenger,Gekiranger and Shinkenger the best. |
I always loved J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai when I was a kid... that and Uchuu Keiji Gavan but Gavan is not a sentai....
|
If only the Metal Hero shows were subbed or would come back or both.

btw, super sentai for this season, the pirate motif Goukenger just aired episode 2, and from what I observed in super sentai blog and forum, it is enthuasiasly accepted by fans. and here again a blog that discussed about the Best super sentai from 2000 onward. for metal heroes, the first trilogy (Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider) was a classic. if only this franchise survive through this era it will be great. some of Metal heroes motif being parodied in sentai also, like in Carranger and also in Dekaranger. glad to see more toku fans here. |
I can't believe Keyhole went down the other night when I was trying to watch it!
I do kind of hope Saban adapts this. I'm a sucker for teamups. |
and that will make interesting speculation on how Power Ranger going to adapt Gokaiger's past sentai / anniversary theme. Since power ranger only started from Zyuranger. Already in Episode 1 the Gokaiger did cameo on Goranger, the first super sentai.
|
I think he should just make it a shorter series, cut out the teams we didn't have and throw in A-Squad.
|
Oh no thanks. I'm alright.
|
Subs have started. #TV-Nihon
|
Don't suppose anyone knows whether Keyhole's gonna die on us again?
|
I just looked at the top and thought "WOW AWESOME! THERE'S A PAPUA NEW GUINEAN MEMBER!" then realised it was spam.
|
Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraiya was one of my favorite as a kid. I watched lots of Juspion, Changeman, Flashman, kamen raider and ofcourse power rangers up to lost galaxy.
|
Jiraiya is come along the Metal Heroes line (gavan, sharivan, shaider etc). I am also quite fan but only the first trilogy.
Oh... and btw, can moderator clean up the SPAM message above? thanks. |

I watched Goseiger VS Shinkenger yesterday. It was amazing. I am actually making my own film with my friend,I'm taking it slow,it will be no budget but I will make sure that the story is good. I might come across as an overly extreme tokusatsu fan but I think,I like most tokusatsu,I grew up watching that kind of thing,at the end of the day, people don't know what they're missing and it doesn't make sense to me to be a fan and yet hate most of it's output. |
Just stumbled upon this site and am loading up on DVD:
Tokusatsudvd.com - Super Sentai DVD, Ultraman DVD, Super Robot DVD, Kamen Rider DVD They have a pretty elaborate collection od Tokusatsu flick for those interested.... and anime too... |
Despite the popularity of Shinkenger I have never liked it, the characters leave me cold and the plot drags. I think Kakuranger and Hurricaneger did the "Japanese" theme better
I am enjoying Gokaiger at the moment but if I had to pick an all-time favourite, Liveman and Abaranger would rate highly on my list |
