Actually I had written a valid scientific counter argument about the act of willingly implementing pain on one's self but I have decided to edit it this way now. Such kind of a discussion would be pointless.

I know how you feel. I do love him the way he is, mostly. While I accept that he does these things, I just wish he didn't is all.
