Sumo: Asashoryu Loses 3rd, Hakuho Retains Lead -
05-26-2007, 03:58 AM
Mongolia's Hakuho took a huge leap toward the sumo summit on Friday, winning his 13th consecutive bout at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. His undefeated record in the tournament means Hakuho stays in the lead going into the final weekend.
Meanwhile, Japan's top Sumo, Asashoryu, suffered a shock third loss at the tournament. Asashoryu allowed veteran ozeki Kaio to get inside and dig deep into his belt. After a grapple at center ring, Kaio twisted the ozeki down onto all fours. The loss puts Asashoryu at 10 wins and 3 losses meaning he can't catch his younger compatriot.
