I've been thinking alot about the switch to multi-platform, and I just couldn't put my finger on why Square would do something this ballsy especially when FFXIII was one of the best official games that the PLAYSTATION 3 had going for it..

Why would they back out after all the success they had on the PS2?

Why would Square deliberately kill a company's console that they've backed for over a decade?

Answer: THEY WOULDN'T.

Square isn't a company that would do that.

Final Fantasy XIII is a BIG game, no doubt about it...
But why would Square send their biggest money-maker to the competition, KNOWING fans would be pissed?

The answer is really simple and you should have caught on by now..

I'm not entirely sure I follow what you're saying. However, why should PlayStation gamers be mad about the new Final Fantasy going to the XBOX? I never really understood the corporate worship that exists when it comes to video games.

Why is the XBOX "competition"? Square is not Sony, Sony is Sony. Square is a company, and the point of a company is to make money... hence if they release it on both consoles, they make more money. Apparently whatever Microsoft was paying them was a high enough amount to get them to release it on the XBOX.

Keep in mind that years ago, Square was a developer for Nintendo exclusively. They bailed out on Nintendo to move to the PSX when it came out. Now they're moving on to the XBOX, and they didn't bail on the PlayStation like they did with Nintendo. At least FF13 is still coming out for the PS3.

@HC. I meant since Square is mainly backing SONY, the XBOX isn't exactly on the same team... I was trying to link it with allegiances... apparently was good though..

As for Nintendo, they had it coming, Square approached them and asked them to change to disc media because of the overwhelming size of FFVII, and Nintendo refused, it's their fault, Square gave them chance to keep them..

I am not "getting it" either. There are a lot more Xbox machines out there, so they can move a lot more copies.

It's because the PS3 has lost Sony billions of dollars, and Square wants their game to be on a console that has a larger chance of success.

You worded that in a stange way. Made it sound like there was some compensation coming to pissed off brand loyalist fans for losnig FFX13 exclusivity.

Microsoft didn't pay Square anything, Squeenix decided to do that all on their own. If Microsoft did pay Square to bring the game multi-platform then why is FFXIII exclusive to PS3 in Japan? Because the sales are horrible for the console and Squeenix sees no reason to develop and localize for Japan.

If you've been keeping up with Square news recently, you would have known of a "HUGE announcement concerning FFVII" is coming at the Square Event next month...

The only logical announcement is a remake.... unless we get another lame spin-off... which square probably wouldn't do... but then, who knows!

If they were going to pull a FFVII remake out of their ass, now would be the best time..

Yes, Square is going to have a FFVII announcement at their private party on the 2nd~3rd of August. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Advent Children Complete, or a new movie. There's been speculation of a FFVII remake, DoC Sequel, Crisis Core-like prequel, and other little thing to dream of.

They already announced that they would give the ACC release date.
The announcement is something else..
new movie.... doubt it...
DoC wasn't that great, a sequel would be too risky.
Crisis Core was good, but it's finished, unless they weave in another character, there's nothing else to explain..

although they do have to explain what Genesis did after flying off with Weiss at the end of DoC...
I highly doubt they'll make another game in terms of DoC.

I had an idea that you might have been referring to a possible FF7 remake, but I didn't want to make any assumptions.

I could see Square possibly keeping a remake exclusive to the PS3, but after this latest announcement, it doesn't seem quite as likely. It all goes back to companies making money - the only way Square will keep such a game exclusive to the PS3 is if Sony delivers a boatload of cash to Square's doorstep - I don't think they have any sort of "allegiance" to Sony, otherwise.

And if it's money Square wants, SONY will give it, SONY has asked them to make a remake cause they know how many consoles it will move

anyway, as stated on many forums, Square's main purpose could be to kind of trap some xbox fans into buying a PS3, after playing and loving FFXIII, they'll be tempted to see how good Versus XIII is, and if they want it will be forced to buy a PS3...

The only thing that could be thought after is that Sony is one of the top share holders for Squeenix. That doesn't have that much influence though.

Because FF's were always exclusive till now. XIII was suppose to be a winner for Ps3 and they pulled this crap. I don't think Enix knows what they're doing. They're thinking with their ass and all they want is more damn money. And the Xbox360 is only selling big in the States, not Japan. In Japan XIII is still a Ps3 exclusive. And I signed the petition, even though I doubt it'll change anything.

We do still have Versus, but that's just not XIII..

If Square doesn't announce a FFVII or FFVII-2, they may as well just stop making games at this point..

Let's not forget they already promised that XIII was a PS3 exclusive a couple months ago.

*Thinks* I would like to see a second DoC, but since the first one didn't get a huge response like Enix hoped I doubt it'll be that. A sequel to VII would be sweet, going back into the main events after VII. That's all I can think of right now. *keeps fingers crossed for a VII remake*

Another movie wouldn't be too bad as long as it didn't take as long to make as Advent Children did, but has the greatness of Advent Children.

Advent Children didn't take that long to make, i think it's taking them longer to add to it for ACC than it took to complete the actual movie itself..

Although ACC has ALOT of potential....

It took place two or three years ( I always mix up the DoC and Advent Children timelines) after the events of VII, so I hope their choice of clothing would change a bit. But of course everyones clothing changed.

AC= 2 years after VII
DoC= 3 years after VII

Cid looked a bit different though. I personally liked Tifa's Advent Children look better than her VII look. I hope if they do make a remake they don't screw around with Cid and they keep him the swearing-chain smoking, piolet he is. Cid just isn't Cid without his cigrettes and foul mouth.

They said they made AC kid-friendly so anyone who has played VII could get the experience, and that ACC was a more mature version of it..

I can't wait to see (for the possible remake) what they'll do with Cid for the cutscenes. I remember him loving the words sh*t and f*ck. After all his final word in the ending of VII was SHIIIIIIIIT!, as he was trying to get everyone out of the crater.

And because they changed Cid, is another reason I can't play Kingdom Hearts. I can't bear to see a 'clean' Cid.

That was one of my big problems with AC, they didn't stay true to the original character personalities.... especially Cid...

Square Enix do not give a flying fuck if all the fanboys are pissed off. As long as you buy the game, which they still will, they don't care.

There are more Xbox's out there + Final Fantasy on Xbox = More games to more people = More money. That is what they want, and that is business. It isn't some fancy fanboy fantasy, they just want to sell as many as possible.

Like I already said in the FF thread,

Sony is the third largest stockholder of Square Enix but that doesn't make Square Enix of Sony. If SE wants to publish FF for Xbox 360 then they should definitely do that. Look at Resident Evil 4 for Gamecube, a few months later it came on PS2 because of the way larger user base. We can't expect to have some exclusive games of the past generation right now, this is just the second year of Sony and look at the amazing games they are releasing right now. Sony doesn't give a shit about third party games as long as they also come on PS3 they are fine. To compare to what shit Nintendo brought this is way and way better.

With only XIII going multi-platform, after the Xbox gamers have the chance to play it, they may want to get a PS3 in order to play Versus XIII....
