Its means Piracy has an effect on the industry, and it isn't harmless like some think.

I know MMM, I'm a hypocrite when it comes to Pirating games.
Its just the Sega made it so damn easy to do on Dreamcast..almost everyone did.
All you had to do was burn the ripped file onto any blank CD..no hardware mods..no special burning techniques, just burn and play.

The reason video game systems are still alive is because of Piracy.
If the Dreamcast had stayed alive and did as well as say, Sony's PS2 and still had the amount of Piracy that it did..it would be outstanding. Company's wouldn't care about Piracy as much, because they were still making money.
Because the Dreamcast bombed, Sega nearly went down the drain, company's took notice and then acted accordingly, adding all sorts of security features so little nine year old Timmy down the road wouldn't be able to play Halo 3 on a nice $2 Verbatim DVD-R DL.

I must be old.

Your perception of right and wrong is so different from mine it is honestly disturbing.

The fact that you capitalize the word "piracy" is, I hope, just a pinky error. But if you honestly think this concept has any roots in reality tells me you live in a fantasy world much more fantastic than the n00bs that come here and think that Japan is like an anime series.

I don't need to tell you the Dreamcast was a much more popular system in Japan than it was in the US (though buyers, like myself, still think it is one of the best systems ever)...and it lived a longer lifespan with graduation-type games and mah-jong games that are a little more adult and have no audience in the US.

But saying "Piracy" is what keeps the video game market alive is as retarded as saying DWI's keep alcohol popular. Seriously. Pull your head out.

Finally, its about time it has happened. You showing some sort of emotion ^_^ I feel like a massive troll because it pleased me that I pissed you off, anyways, onto the convo.

I'm not trying to say that it currently keeps it alive, but what if the Dreamcast hadn't failed in the US? Would the other company's(Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft)Have made there newer consoles as protected as they currently are?

Also..I'm astounded at the numbers right now..in 2008, the PC version of Spore was pirated 1,700,000 times..that $8,500,000 down the drain. Damn.

I am not sure what your goal is, but if pissing me off was it, I wouldn't feel so personally satisfied.

When I was your age trying to steal as much as I could for my personal entertainment was completely off the radar. I had a job during summer vacation so i could buy the stuff I wanted...I guess I am old-fashioned.

It wasn't my goal, more like a small side-quest of our convo.

When you were my age, could you have done what I do?
Download games, burn them to a $2 disc and play them?
And yeah, that $70 copy of Super Mario 64 feels great to buy, but the novelty wears off. Instead of going to Gamestop with money in hand, eager to pre-order or buy the newest FPS at the time, GoldenEye. It becomes a tedious chore after a while, espicially when demo's weren't available. Or I didn't have acsess to them. So then I would go to the store, money in hand, with mere hope, hope that the game I bought wasn't a big peice of shit that should have never been put on store shelves. I'm looking at you, Superman 64, that was $50 I would have rather wiped my ass with.
Point being, i dont like wasting my money.
