Really want to learn Japanese!

I don't know Japanese at all so I don't know if I'd be much of a help with English but I really want to learn Japanese!

one way to get started would be to watch a ton of anime and japanese related stuff. i dont wanna say i know japanese or anything, but my friend who is taking japanese says i know quite a bit.

just basically put two and two together. espcially if they use the word a lot.
and buy a japanese-english dictionary. WILL come in handy.

....and then there's always taking classes.

No one can learn Japanese properly by just watching anime. If you are still a student, try and take a class...or apply to college that teaches Japanese. Look for exchange programs you could apply to.

If those ideas aren't possible, pick up a text book that teaches both words, grammar and writing. It's best if you can find some pronuniciation help (anime might help there) but a teacher/tutor is best.

That's exactly what I was going to say right before I accidentally exited out of my browser. >< :o

But I agree totally. While subbed anime can be supplemental as far as vocabulary and pronunciation, I think that having a teacher (if possible) or at least a series of books like Nakama would be much more effective. ;)
