yeah it was university, i'm australian and my bachelor was business (accountancy) not at all related to Japanese. this person is wanting to live in Japan so they will need a 4 year or equivalent bachelor degree before they can get a work visa. so to go on exchange during their required university degree would be a good idea and it is easy to get. i got a full scholarship from JASSO and i ended up saving a few thousand AUD at the end of it.

go to japan first.
You're from england right? you can apply for a working holiday, in which you can come straight out of high school and apply for one. Learn language first and then live there for a few months and try pick up the language through working with different working experiances. try out different jobs, check out japan, see if you like it. go back home, go uni, and if you really have your heart set on it, and you really like japan, go for whatever job you desire. "I'm sorry, but i must have given you the impression that I actually care about your opinions"
