(In answer to your question after Tyrien's post, with semi-colons instead of commas) I see PETA disrupting the lives of normal human beings who are just going about being top-of-the-foodchain humans; using women in a degrading manner to further their goals; cheapening the existence of the human race; and just generally being a pain in the ass.

They show up to places and throw red paint (or pigs' blood?) on people wearing fur coats, which is destruction of personal property and can be construed as a physical assault.

They've hired female models to do ads for them. The ones I've seen were borderline pornographic.

They try to make us think that humans are somehow on the same level as any other animal. While I agree that we are not seperate nature and are animals ourselves, I do also believe that we above other creatures. (It's never an excuse for abuse of anything, of course)

If you ever see a hat that says "Got Beer?" on it, know that it was oriiginally a campaign launched by PETA to get people to stop drinking milk. If my source was correct, their specific target was teenagers, though I would verify that before I bought it.

Gr, just talking about PETA is making me irritable >_< . It doesn't help that I'm tired :P . Feel free to reply, but I won't be responding until the afternoon (PT). 'Til then?
I guess I don't know what "top-of-the-foodchain humans" means. Are you saying since humans are the most powerful an intelligent, we have the right to treat animals however we wish? If so, I would disagree.

Certainly I don't agree with spraying paint or blood on people, and if they do this, that is pretty terrible.

What do you mean about "using women in a degrading manner". I am sorry, just I don't know any details about what you are talking about. Do you mean ads where women are almost naked? Just out of curiousity, since that technique is used by a lot of fashion designers, do you not buy Guess? or Calvin Klein or other major designer brands because they degrade women in thier ads?

Never heard about the "got beer" campaign...but why would they want people to stop drinking milk?

PETA is against meat eating, owning pets, using eye seeing dogs for blind people, medical experiments that use animals which is responsible for medical advancements in the last 60 years, etc

I'm not a PETA person, but even I'm against the using of animals for medical reasons. They should stick to human subjects since the medicine is for humans, not animals. I really feel it's unfair that animals have to be subjected to something they didn't (and couldn't) even sign up for, if that makes any sense. ^^

Wow, took me this long to see your post ^_^;; . Sorry...

By talking about humans being top of the food chain, I mean that we are, in fact, "above" animals. That doesn't mean that we should treat them poorly, only that we are in the position to do so. Humans slaughtering animals is no different than lions chasing down caribou. (And anyone who says "lions don't kill by the thousands" is naive: there are a lot more human mouths to feed than there are lion mouths). Having said all that, I do believe that humans are also animals themselves. Only at the top of the food chain :P .

They do.

No, I actually try to stay away from major designer labels. All of their clothing always bears a humongous logo on it somewhere, and I hate being someone else's billboard. Also, the ads I see produced by A&F, Guess, AE, and others are not nearly as bad as the ones I saw produced by PETA, in which the model was entirely nude and smeared in fake chicken blood, holding a "dead" chicken, all with a sultry-sexy expression on her face.

The model herself apparently didn't mind--as I remember, she was a PETA supporter anyway. Even still....

Milk in America comes from Cows and Goats. Both of which are animals. Animals are PETA's god. They protect their god from everything. Milking a cow is paramount to raping an angel.

Personally, I feel more comfortable with finding out a drug failed clinical trials and killed two hundred test subjects when the subjects were pigs instead of humans. I'm not saying that animal testing is "all fine and good". I AM saying that it's much better than the alternative. I mean, I suppose we could run tests on plants, which have no central nervous system, but somehow I don't think the pharmaceutical industry would make much progress if they did that <_< .

But you're right: the medicine is for humans! Funny thing about bacteria and viruses, though, is that they don't care what organism they're in when they encounter antibiotics. They die just the same.

When it comes to cosmetics, though... I think animals testing for cosmetics is pointless. Human skin is different from monkey skin or pig skin or whatever. A lotion that works well at reducing wrinkles on a chimp might be quite ineffective on a human. Hence, pointless.

Aaaah, I love irony. That's the same as Hitler being part Jewish, yet persecuting the Jews.
