Miyavifan,
While I think you have a lot of prep to be done before reloacting to Japan will work, I have a suggestion.

You mentioned having done some hotel work. What sort of work? Was it with a major chain? If you can get placed well enough in Japanese owned hotel in the U.S. there might be more opportunites to transfer to one they own in Japan. Same is true for American owned, but there is more competition for those assignments.

Miyavifan,

tommasi and TalnSG have some good suggestions. If you really want to come to Japan don't give up. In the meantime, why don't you plan a trip to Japan. This way you can get taste for what life could be like there. I know it sounds crazy, but you might end up not liking it or you may fall deeper in love with the place. If you you need a place to stay for a few months I have a couple of contacts that might be able to help you out. Let me know.
