"Chinpira", young yakuza in training or yakuza wannabes, are another matter. These people can be trouble to anyone as they want to make a name for themselves. If you encounter these types just keep going and do not confront them. However, you will probably not encounter this type as you are Asian and they will assume you are Japanese.

I was confronted by three of them one day while walking with my Japanese fiancee. Luckily 3 older yakuza came out of a bar and stopped it before it got bad. In 30 years, that was my only confrontation. And that was 25 years ago!

I'm going to be in Japan from March 20th until April 5th and I had a few questions for the people who have been in Japan these dates or live there.

I know that at these dates kids will be out of school, Does this mean that certain places will not be safe to visit? I only ask this because when school is out in my city you have to watch your back ALL of the time.....I REALLY hope that isn't the case in Japan because I want to have a good time!:)

I was in Japan last year in February and had the time of my life! I had little kids have me pick them up to have their picture taken with me and ice cream girls give me free ice cream:D . But the ONLY odd thing that happened was at the temple in Asakusa when a monk shouldered me as he walked by. At the temple my friend Kazuyo showed me and the people who came to Japan with me how to throw the coins in the box and pray at the temple, Well after I did this a really small monk walked by me to put the candles out at a shrine and slammed into my shoulder! I'm not small at all being 6'1 and 300 pounds, But he kinda took my breath away. Did I offend him by praying at the temple? At other temples the monks would usually smile and take my picture with other monks or in front of the temples, So that time really surprised me.

Last ?. Which places are the best to meet new friends and have sake/drinks with? When I was there I walked to a ministop from my hotel and ran into a guy who was totally trashed and his girlfriend, The guy talked to me for around an hour about how much fun he had that night and it made me really happy that a complete stranger was this nice when people in my city would only talk to you if you had something they wanted! I ended up with a great picture of the guy, his girlfriend and I before they left :D

P.S. Anyone who thinks they want to go just a little bit, Jump on the plane! It was the best place I have ever been in my life! The people are great and I even spoke with an old yakuza who was really happy that I visited his country and asked me the 20 questions(even the gangster was friendly LOL).

:mad: WOW maybe some people in Japan are as ignorant as people here in the US, Thank you for clearing that up for me. It's too complex to use chopsticks and squat to use the bathroom! Maybe I would be better off using my barbarian fork and sit to use the toilet:eek: Don't worry this foreign devil won't make the mistake of thinking Japan is a wonderful place again:mad:

I have read nothing in this thread that shows people don't respect Japan.

FYI - We have 4 seasons also, EVERYONE does.
