Hmm.. I won't agree thats "just what university is all about", i mean, its a personal choice isn't it? You can choose to live like that at university anywhere, including Japan. But from what my cousin told me (not from Todai, he failed the entrance :), went somewhere small instead), there isn't anytime for that kind of "fun" life. It was studying all the way till there is no tomorrow... of course, unless you don't care about failing and being suspended by the university

Japanese university must be tougher than mine then because Im living the typical student life style and I aint failing.

The probably outdated reputation of Japanese university life is more how Shad0w describes. The hard part is getting in, so there is a lot of partying and drinking as young men look forward to the salary man life.
