Hands up if you love living in JP

It's so cool how everyone is so friendly. And people are always really eager to talk to you about Japanese culture, I really care about. It's super fun to talk about Japanese mochi, Japanese 4 seasons, cherry blossom, daikon, Japanese diet, Japanese sake, Japanese Onsen, Japanese matsuri, Japanese kimono (soooo beautiful), changing of the leaves etc....

My favourite is talking about the differences in Japan and foreign countries, you realise how different and unique Japanese really are. I guess the reason Japanese are so unique is because it's an island.

What does everyone else think about Japan? Isn't it just the most awesome place ever: Everyone is really kind, where I live in Tokyo is so cosmopolitan, everyone's so efficient, it's very very safe (I guess because everyone is so stable and well-adjusted), really great economy and everyone is just so open-minded.

Before I take your message seriously, tell me this;

How long have you lived in Japan? Do you speak the language? And how long do you realistically plan on staying in the country?

jasonbvr 03-17-2009 01:12 AM

Such positive vibes coming from a person who goes by killyoself, I must have not gotten the memo about opposite day.

Just wanted to try moving to a bigger town than the one I was living in (Glasgow)

So decided to move to Tokyo because my visa for the states had ran out and it was looking really difficult to get a new one.

How come you guys post in Japanese? You're obviously way better at English. Do you not find it like writing with your left hand?

You replied in Japanese. I replied to that in Japanese. Only politeness, don`t you agree?
Although I`m curious what makes you think that I`m all that bad at Japanese. Please, do tell.

No, I don't think you're bad at Japanese. Your Japanese is great. Just, seems a bit strange all these English speakers communicating to each other using Japanese is all.

MMM 03-19-2009 11:43 AM

Not everyone here is a native English speaker. On top of that, sometimes communicating in Japanese separates the "men from the boys" so to speak.

You answered in Japanese, and I was in a bad mood and not feeling all that friendly toward you having seen your first post. I figured you`d understand what I was saying and that is what mattered.

And, well, I type a whole lot more in Japanese than in English - so felt I could keep my cool a bit better while dealing with what I suspected might be a troll.

You seem to be a decent guy, but rubbing people the wrong way at this point. I hope this all blows over as you do seem like you could be a good contributor to this board. We had a bit of a bad start and I`d like to put that behind and get on. :D

Yo! *hand up*

I'm not homesick at all. But then, I was never in one place in the states for more than a few years, so I have no "home" per se to go back to.

Texas as a whole, I think of as that place I am from, but I've lived in five different Texas cities too, so not really one of them (saaave maybe Austin, because I went to college there) really have any special meaning.

Japan is home now.

mrnicekid 03-22-2009 08:17 AM

hands up too!

i've been living in japan for almost 6 years now, and i'm still loving it.

moving to yokohama this month and i hope the experience there would be even better.

but... having said that... i don't see myself settling down in japan forever...
