Teaching English "sux ass" if you have no interest in teaching or English. However, if you find satisfaction in teaching it has been a satisfying career for thousands.

I came to Japan on the JET program and will admit I came more for the experience than to teach. However I found a real satisfaction in teaching, and came back to America to teach Japanese for several years.

Not every job is for every person. Teaching "sux ass" if you have no interest or desire. If you do, though, it can be one of the most satisfying jobs on the planet.

A lot of the teachers I've met from the big Eikaiwa companies are enough to make me want to punch myself in the face for being a fellow gaijin. Which brings me back to the stuff I wrote in my first (deleted) post, so i'm gonna stop now.

Sure, you work at a University, but what do you do exactly?... Part of the reason I can't take you seriously is because your so vague on the details.

Killyoself never said HE didn't have a degree. But you are right, we do not know what his friends do at the University.

I don`t really think that anyone is meaning to imply that the act of teaching is awful. It`s the majority of the workplaces. If you`re in a real school, ie. with JET or independently hired - I`m sure it can be wonderful and fulfilling. I love teaching, but it was the workplace and the others who were in it just for the beer and Japanese girls that made me sick. WAY too many of those working in the eikaiwa joints are the type that are here for some quick cash and a lay... Not everyone, but way too many of them for it to be a comfortable workplace if you don`t follow their ideals.

I worked a total of a year in one because a) I didn`t have my degree yet so didn`t think to try for anything better b) My husband was still in the process of getting his degree so couldn`t work nearly enough to support us, and c) It was a quick and easy job to get. I made more than enough money, but the work environment was absolutely awful. The work itself is what you make of it - but you can`t change the way the others who were here for a year, make the most of it, Japan sucks!!! etc etc crowd...

Killyoself,

Look at it this way,

The reason why people here want you to get a diploma is because they want you to have success. For the point it is much harder then without the paper and regardless of what you think of college that is reality. Very few can get by on "luck" or charisma. Hence why the route with the diploma is stressed. It's better to stress the safest route then an faster one. Also you have to look at the target audience most if not high school graduates don't know what they want to accomplish with there lives, or have a real world view.

Take a baby for example, do you not smack away the hand if it reaches for a pot of boiling water?

There are exceptions to the rule no ones trying to deny that. They don't want people to potentially ruin there lives because of a bad mistake.

My point on you getting ban, is setting there using derogatory negatives/cussing people. If you disagree with someone, it's not necessary to demean them to get a point across.

Why don't you tell that to the other people who are tying to demean me to get their point across.

Which derogatory negatives/cuss words are you referring to?

I'm assuming all this illiterate hate is sparked over how you managed to get to Japan with little of a degree? That's great and all, and very Jack Kerouac of you, but it doesn't happen often.

I'm pretty certain everyone who's posted here needs to listen to a Bobby McFerrin song produced in the late 80's. Everyone's so uptight.
