Basically, the few Western hostesses I knew had working visas from a day job and one other was married to a Japanese man. |

My JP girl in the 90's actually worked as a hostess at a Japanese club on the Gold Coast Australia and was well experienced in Japan. I knew a few JP girls in Osaka who worked the scene. The main danger would be going with a customer away from the bar and then of course he may turn out to be some kind of perverted monster As far as sex goes, Hostess bars whilst obviously being sexually attracted to JP men, that very much depends on the girl if A customer offers. It is basically a transaction and private agreement between you and the customer. Some cheaper "low class" style hostess bars are obviously aimed more towards the cutomer wanting sex, whilst other's are a simple sit, drink and talk scenario with the odd hand reaching out to "tickle" the leg. I would say that with nine out of ten bars, sex is definitely not part of the job, and once again, it is up to the girl and the customer. The game is, obviously the girl can make a lot more money, and the customer keeps coming back for more I guess if any girl is up to young or old men touching them, it is worth the money Japan offers many sex establishments which are simply for that. These would be easy for a non JP girl to get work at. Once again, most possibly could be dangerous depending on who the custoemer is, and then we have AIDS. The amount of Japanese men, as with other country national males visitng developing countries as sex tourists, the risk is high if it's not on! All in all, if you have a good personality, like kids, teenagers or seniors and feel you are a good talker, stick to English teaching as it would be far more rewarding and culturally educational for you in the long run. Hope this helps |

Right now, I wouldn`t suggest it. One of the biggest casualties of the current economic pinch is the hostess bar.
They are closing left and right, and the few that are still doing well are doing so because they are choosing the best of the best - the girls with lots of experience and skill in sucking the money out of the customers. If you don`t have the experience, the chance of getting into the market now is pretty low. In fact, it`s now well known that the girls are only being paid minimum wage in most cases - the days of the luxury club with girls making 10k a night has disappeared. One of the first expenses to be cut from a business or even private budget is luxury entertainment. Sure, if you`re GREAT at it, and have some serious skill you can probably make more than teaching, but be ready to be in a position where you could be cut any day if someone comes along who looks like they might make the place a bit more money. |

thanks for the advice all.
I have been advised that there is no visa for foreigners any more for that sort of work since Lucy Blackman but I am coming from Australia and have a working holiday visa so it's not limited to industry like entertainment visas for example and don't require sponsorship either. It seems to be the only loophole around it. I've already got a job offer in Ginza so I'm gonna give it a try and I'll report back |
