hostessing in Japan

I am moving to Japan soon and am contemplating looking for work as a hostess. Has anyone in this forum done this sort of work or know anyone who does/has? Is it dangerous? Could I make just as much money teaching English?

What are you thoughts?

If you want to be exposed to tons of alcohol, second hand smoke and sweaty old men (who try to grope you at every opportunity) in a very competitive environment while working the graveyard shift, hostessing is probably for you.

I have known (Japanese) girls who work in hostessing and some of them say the money is great and swear that there is no sex involved as long as you work at the right clubs.

On the other hand, there are many girls with horror stories.

I guess the best advice is to talk to some girls who have done it before and see what they have to say. I assume you are a foreigner?

As far as pay, I highly doubt you can make as much money teaching English in Japan as you can hostessing.

Hostess jobs don't include sex in principle but you may be forced to go on dates with repeat clients as per the dohan system and the chances are that you'll also be forced to stand on the street as you lure potential clients into the establishment.

if thats the job you want to do go for it.

There are all kinds of clubs/bars and all kinds of jobs. Groping in most hostess bars will get you 86ed.

How is your Japanese?

Wouldn't you need a workers visa to do this? And wouldn't that mean getting hired by a hostess club before you depart for Japan?
