South Korea is similar to Japan in many many ways and the suprising thing is South Korea is very famous for having very conservative views on sex, even in the 21st century.

Oh yes, there are lots of "closet" fans of Japanese U-15 in South Korea. (note I emphasize "closet")

It's mostly to do with your use of the word moral.

Here are some reasons why you get a facepalm

Because your version of moral is obviously Christian.
Because the grounds on which you entertained the idea that Japan could be an immoral place was weak.

It depends on what you consider immoral, Dark.

As you know already, sexual 'things' in Japan are quite the same as in America. However, you get the odd store here and there where it's at the front. For example, me and a friend walked into a store next to our hotel in the Shibuya district of Japan (Keep in mind that it was midnight) and there was a stack of hentai magazines next to the door.

However, I've been to Japan twice, 7 days in Kyoto, and 7 in Tokyo, and I've hardly actually witnessed something that's "horrifying" to see.

And just to add, I don't find sex, or sexual acts or anything of that sort immoral. Sexuality was openly worshipped years ago before the Church "advertised" it as a sin.

Darksyndrem, Japan is about the safest place you can go in the world these days. One thing for you and your parents to remember.. is that NO PLACE is totally risk free. There are no guarantees in life. You have plenty of opportunities to "go bad" or get hurt right at home. It is at LEAST as easy to get into troyuble in America as it is in Japan. Likely far MORE easy.

All you can do is do your best to make the most out of opportunities presented to you, and to try to make the best decisions you can.

For example, if your parents feel that walking into a book store and accidentially seeing a few covers of books with somewhat sexually explicit material on them is going to totally "corrupt you" then .....yes, that can happen in Japan. But not in EVERY store you walk into. If your parents are concerned at THAT level.... then you are likely fighting a losing battle.

I agree with Samurai007...... you need to sit down with your parents (sounds like mainly your MOTHER) and have a good ole' heart to heart talk about what her REAL fears area for you traveling. My guess is that the "loose morals" business is actually a smokescreen for the real underlying issues...... which could range from fear of you growing up and no longer being her "baby" to who knows what. And I am NOT belitteling those kinds of things........ they are important and they are REAL.

But rather than focusing on discussions HERE...... you need to head to the kitchen table over some hot tea for a serious chat.

You guys have been a HUGE help, and JBaymore, I think your right about having a talk with the parents. And with it being an underlying reason, your probably right as well. I really don't know what the real reason may be, but like you said me growing up, is a very likely reason. I also don't think my parents quite understand the whole host parenting thing yet (I don't quite understand it yet either) but with what you guys have said about how responsibility is taken in Japan, I think that will be quite reassuring.

@Salvanas, at this point, I'm not sure if what I think is immoral is relevant. I think I'm really just comparing Japan to America, in a way. I will still say that what I (and mostly my parents) consider immoral is based on Christian morals, because I've grown up in a Christian household and my parents have as well (Which is no reason to be facepalmed.). And maybe some of you have a different view on Christianity, I know for sure that some Christians have really changed people's perspective on us, in a negative way, which...well I won't get into that. And just to get something straight, the church did not lable sex a sin...only permarital sex (from what I know) and I really don't have much of an opinion on it because I'm just that unstable (?)
