Christianity in mordern Japan
 

Would all you who live in Japan (or have recently) say Christianity is "on the rise"?

I don't think religion-related thread is allowed here.

I don't think Christianity would ever become a major religion in Japan to be honest.

Christianity in the West is on the decline (America being an exception). I don't know why Japanese would turn to Christianity.

this is not talking about the religion itself.

And the number of Christians in Japan is so minuscule, it is hard to say it is rising or falling.

As long as the discussion remains on this level, this thread is in compliance with the rules.

In church, we get pamphlets of another country's religious views... And I was about to cry while I was reading about Japan because it says that there are many "cult-like" religious groups and most people are atheist.

There are still Christian churches in Japan, but there's just not many.

I think that everywhere Christian faith is dieing, another thing that makes me cry. ;.; But this is more of a personal matter.

There are cult-like religious groups all over the world. Although Aum Shinrikyo became very famous because of the sarin gas attack in Tokyo in the mid-90s, I think they were more no menacing than many cults in the US.

I've actually really been exposed to the "spiritual" Japanese group called Sukyo Mahikari. I'm just curious if anyone else has heard of it here?

Concerning the actual topic, I've discussed this with my calligraphy teacher, and she said Japan is more of a spiritual nation and there are very few belonging to an organized religion such as Christianity. Apparently the Christmas the Japanese celebrate is more materialistic than in other countries (although it is fast becoming this in America :p ), mostly the presents not so much Jesus Christ.

Religion is dying as a whole.
