Where is the best place to live in Japan?

Hello, Hajimemashite!!

Iv'e had to join a forum and post the question as i had looked on several other forums but found no joy.

Iv'e lived in Japan & been back there 8 times, I still dream of living there in an all idealistic world of course & I ponder after much experience where is the best place to live & for the weather been the main factor ?

So knowing quite a bit which is probably nothing compared to somebody who is Japanese, But rather than ask I thought i'd share my views and see what & how people respond, correcting me or agreeing perhaps?

Firstly I can't believe that all the websites dont mention weather at all, And for me a fairly hairy blue eyed Gaijin that is a BIIIGGG challenge!!

As soneone who loves Japanese culture I dont need the western links in Tokyo which for me is far too branded, self indulgent, ugly concrete & boring for me been a nature lover.....My top guess is that Hokkaido is too cold & Tokyo is too much Mushi atsui!!

My best guess so far mostly regarding weather is Yamagata, I think there will also be cold but maybe less of the siberia winds than what Hokkaido get?? (If there is someone from Hokkaido in here of course that will be sensational & they can dispell or my myths...) I imagine the latittude of Yamagata would be just fine fine..maybe Sendai too. Not too far North & not too far south.

Nagoya as a city is the most comfortable in my experience, Anybody agree?

it's really smart & clean and without doubt the most overlooked of the major cities, Who talks about Nagoya compatred to the usual Osaka, Yokohama, Tokyo, Kyoto chatter?
I like the underground shopping, but im going to cop it there in the summer.

amazingly enough Yakushima is perfect climate as somebody explained with weather temperatures to back it up, it has a mild climate in the north lots of rain & tropical climate in the south with flowers & fruits even its so small wow!

Sorry I should of renamed the thread "The best weather in Japan".

If Hokkaido is same cold as UK I can be happy there. If it's as cold as Scotland or worse it might be pushing the extreme's ? ?

All in all just for the record I will finish with a little chart

1.Yamagata
2.Sendai
3.Hokkaido
4.Yakushima (who's going tro get a job there though? lol)
5.Nagano
6.Nagoya
7.Nakatsagawa (If you love mounatins & full on Japanese experience)
8.Gifu

1. Sendai
2. Hakkodate
3. Fukuoka
4. Kanazawa
5. Niigata

Tohoku, Kyushu, Hokuriku; everything else is shit-tier. Might as well live in Saitama if not Sendai...

It would be really hard for me to come up with some sort of list, as visiting a place is different than actually living in it. I have been all over Japan, but have only lived in a small number of places.

That said, I really like the Chubu and Hokuriku areas. You get the best of both worlds in the Aichi (Nagoya) and Gifu areas... And up along the northern coast it is both nice in terms of weather, spacious, and beautiful (but you lose out on anything big city related.)

To sum it up, I live (almost) in Nagoya because I find it the best place to live rather than visit in Japan. Tourist areas don't make good homes...
