YO Otaku!
I'm a typical Otaku 2.
The age is 26, live in Tokyo.
My genres as Otaku are Anime, Manga, Light Novel.

My favorites are COWBOY BEBOP, Ghost in the Shell, Berserk and Strawberry Marshmallow.
The works I'm paying attention in this season are Bakuman(バクマン), Arakawa(荒川), Ore-Imo(俺妹), Ika-Musume(イカ娘), Kami-Nomi(神のみ), Sore-Machi(それ町), Den-Yu-Den(伝勇伝) and the Index(禁書目録).

I am an Otaku too. I'm 20 and live in Scotland, with the hope of living in Japan one day. My genre as an otaku are anime, music, idols....etc. lol. Although I'm fairly new to anime, I love it. So far, I've liked Tokyo Mew Mew (or the Western version at least), Full Metal Panic and Witchblade. Do you have any recommendations of Anime I should see? I like most genres, apart from maybe horror. :vsign:

Because you prefer Witchblade, you should also dig Helsing.

Like we Japanese, I have heard that British regards modesty as important.
But we Otaku have not forgotten assertiveness like Osaka people.
So Otaku in Japan may be considered exceptional.

I've heard in Japan, being described as an otaku is negative, & it is the same over here. Otaku's are quite rare over here, although a few people do like Anime.

And I'd agree to that last statement. Otaku was NEVER a positive term - just like weaboo and Japanophile never was. It's usually a term to describe people with an actual obsession concerning Japan. Be it manga, anime or jrock - generally these people get a little carried away... and they tend to get scary as hell. >_<

I looked this up as I didn't have a clue what the word meant. Now I know.

Things may be changing. I know one Japanese guy who at one point said quite plainly he likes to think of himself as "a member of the Otaku nation". (This is someone I know in person, not over an Internet forum.) Of course, he said this in English during an anime club meeting, so he probably felt pretty comfortable saying so in that context. I've also seen the seiyuu/singer Haruko Momoi happily calling herself an otaku and encouraging her fans to claim the word for themselves, though I will admit she's kind of a special case.

It's like the use of the word "geek" in English. When I was a kid, that word was purely negative, and there's no way in hell you would call yourself that. But these days there are lots of people who self-identify as "geeks". Wil Wheaton (best known among the general public for playing Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation) titled one of his early autobiographical books Just a Geek, and there is even an online store "ThinkGeek" specializing in "geek-oriented" merchandise.

It's probably still wise not to call someone else an otaku unless you know they'd be OK with it, though.

I think he's referring to the anime for this: Tantei Opera Milky Holmes. I haven't seen it myself, so I can't comment.

Oden, I'm amused that both of these shows you recommended to JamboP26 contain a rather...interesting view of Britain in an alternate universe, since JamboP26 is British. :D I also found both shows to be quite entertaining. :)

How do you connect with Otakus?

I\'m a computer programmer,
so I often participate in the seminar of computer programming.
Because many of the Japanese Geeks are also Otaku, I fulfill the purpose.:D
