Hey, anyone here have Google+ or want an invite to it while they are open? If so let me know and add me! I would love to have more friends on it to learn Japanese with.

It's evolution. As the design slowly begins to perfect itself with each next step, other websites become obsolete. Look at Myspace.

Right now you've got mainly Twitter, Facebook, and Skype. These are three different popular social media forms. What if you could combine all 3 into one easy to navigate website? That's what Google+ is trying to do. This could potential phase out the others and leave you with one site.

So this invite thing is because it's too small to handle a huge influx of accounts?

Pretty much. It's in beta phase so Google wants some activity from live users but they're not prepared to do a full stress test of the servers. They're working out the kinks right now.
