Love Poems

Share with me your poetry of love! Sad, happy, profound, silly, ironic or straightforward! Just as long as it potrays your feelings on love ^_^

Love?

I stare blankly at the broad smile before me, brown eye's that shine like copper. You twist and turn to a beat that no one else seems to hear, skirt down on your ankles fraying in the wind, and I only watch from the outside. What am I to you? I wonder as I search your smile for the answer. Why do you talk to me? Smile for me? Is it love? No, I say, life is not so fair. But still I smile back.
Because I am in love.
I'm sure you notice; the falter in my step, the change in my expressions. I am not who I am with you, I am who I've always wanted to be. And yet you are so very much the same. What am I worth to you, why can't I think straight? Why is it that all I hear is sex, sex, sex, yet when I see you all I can think is holding hands? What does that mean? And why, I ask desperately, as the intentions behind those brown eye's that shine like copper fall slowly out of my view.
Why is it you?

An example by me. ^_^

mmhhhh, love poems, there are so many good out there, it's hard to decide which one to choose :confused:

But I think I will go with this one, a well known piece of Yeats:
Please enjoy :)

W. B. Yeats:

He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and sliver light
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread soft because you tread on my dreams.

My guess is that the thread was meant for users to post their own hand-made (:D) poetry, not for quoting someone else's... but despite this fact, I'd like you all to read the most witty and famous sonnet by Shakespeare:

CXXX

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red, than her lips red:
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound:
I grant I never saw a goddess go,
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet by heaven, I think my love as rare,
As any she belied with false compare.

(should you have any problems with interpretation -> Shakespeare's Sonnets. The amazing web site. Commentary. Sonnet 130. )

In other words, I love my mistress because I love her, and making silly claims as to how she compares to things is not required. How interesting...yet hypocritical. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Mid-Summer Night's Dream are all FULL of such comparisons =P. Though maybe it is true, as I cannot remember any specific lines...However, I am certain that a romantic comparison at one time sprouted from the pen of shakespeare.

Love that cannot be.

When I see her I feel like a feather,
So light like im walking on air,
Falling down from the heavens as if she is an angel.
When we talk I cannot help but look into her eyes and
See the beauty within and her gorgeous smile,
If I was to ask for an angel she would be there,
When we walk I cannot help think about what it would
Be like to be with her, walking on the beach during a sunset,
Staring at the stars during night, but life has its many
Problems, love is not always first,
People say that love is blind, people say that when you're in it
Nothing else matters, what if you're in it and they do not know how
You feel what if you're in it and they are with someone else,
I want to tell her how I feel, I want to hold her neck and kiss her,
But to make life's problems worse and to cause more problems,
This love is worth, to lose a friendship, to gain love, to lose a
Friendship and gain nothing,

i know its not that good but i dont spend long on these i wrote this in a moment with words that just come to mind i did not read over twice

This popped into my head earlier today, its still a little rough, but I hope you like.

I think of then, so long ago,
When I was young, My passions bold.
So it was, you walked those halls,
That place of minds,and lessons told

A chance encounter, under autumn sun.
You smiled to me, and I to you,
Hence began, our journey long.
We smiled some more, our love grew true.

We danced, we laughed, we walked as one.
Thus came the point, my friend turned wife.
Time would pass, good tidings arrived,
You had within, the joy of life.

Seasons turned, history passed,
The child once born, now a man.
A chance encounter, under winter moon.
We smiled upon them as love began.

So it is, we walk these hills,
I hold your hand, and you hold mine.
Our love forever, till time grows still.

in this world of wonder, and joy fulfilled.
I think of now, how short the time,
Our love forever, till stars grow still.
