Hey, no side conversations! <--- (stricktly to keep up appearances. Go ahead and talk. =P)
Anyhow, the irony is that I myself do not know much about the Shinsengumi, but research would be simple enough. Read a few books, check around the net...easy. ^_^ Plus, from what I do know of them, they are AWESOME XD
