Your Own Quotes

Well, I had this idea while I was in math class while taking a test,
but don't worry, it has nothing to do with the subject at all, however
that may have affected my test grade!

ANYWAY.

I like to read, and so I often think back to quotes that
sounded interesting in my book, like, for some reason
whenever you read them, it sorta means something to you.

For example, from Wuthering Heights :

"I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me
ever after, and changed my ideas: they've gone through
and through me, like wine through water,
and altered the
color of mind.
"

This quote sounded really artistic to me in a way, and you
can actually find it* as my headline on my myspace. Also,
I believe in this quote deeply, because I have often had a
thought or two about this.

*the bolded part

But back on to topic, the point I am trying to make is that
there are many quotes from books that I have written down
someplace because it was special to me. Although, it's not
just from other people's writings that I find quotes I like.

I don't know why, but a piece of my own writing interested
me as well. For example, from a story I've been working on
for over a year (and have not had much progress with) :

"The words just seemed to fall out of my mouth,
as if marbles were on my tongue."

Most likely, this won't mean much to anybody else, but
the question I have is if anybody else has had a quote
that you felt strongly about? It can be from your own
writings or from somebody else's, I'm just curious.

Thanks for reading! And I apologize, if somebody else
had this idea before me, but I searched and didn't
find anything similar... so just post the quotes here
and where it is from, and maybe the reason to why
you like it and such.

Again, thank you!

I made up this quote for my friends

'Death doesn't tell secrets, it tells lies'

Banzai 01-31-2009 02:24 AM

Hmm, I'll think of one right now.

"When ever you see the color red seeping out of your clothing, don't worry, your only dying".

I say this because you should not panic when your bleeding to death or else you'll be going into shock and YOU'LL MOST LIKELY DIE!

There that's my quote and reasoning. :D

Salvanas 01-31-2009 02:38 AM

One that my father taught me, and has stuck with me and become my most cherished advice.

"Do not regret the past. Merely reflect on it."

No words have ever rung true onto my mind since he told me that.

I like that Sal-kun, I like it very much.

My father also gave me a bit of advice myself when I was a child, and I have said it to many others over for years, for it has always rung true.

"Make a friend with pain, and you have a friend for life."

Some may think he was being cold, but I find it to be one of the most priceless things I have ever been told.

Slykaz1 01-31-2009 07:30 AM

I like saying this alot...

"Best things come to those who wait."

Kicho 02-05-2009 11:03 PM

It's from a song I was writing...actually is nothing special just in this moment it has some special meaning for me.

"Hypocrisy loves the human soul"

Oni 02-06-2009 12:47 AM

My friend once said, "When there is a frisbee coming at your face... duck."
Or the infamous snicker of high school seniors, followed by the whispered, then yelled, "penis." Talk about the most akward game ever... XD

Okay here's my real quote: "There is always some amount of sadness beyond people's eyes, some just show it more than others. Those that can see it when your smiling and comfort you are your true friends."

I like this, it kinda fits me...since I don't usually show how I feel, my friends get 'vibes' from me when I'm sad or something.
It's like laura had vibes form me before i broke up w/ him...

Oni 02-06-2009 01:14 AM

Go right ahead. I came up with it for an english project. :)

"Always live like its your last"
or
"Live like there's no tomorrow"

its really special because it tells that a person should always enjoy life even if problems drown you to death. :D

My dad gave me a rockin' quote to live my life by when I was younger too. As a young tot in high school, I was always worried about everything.

"Don't bother yourself with the things you have no control over."

Made my life then times better, just with one turn of phrase.

Another from One Piece, the only part to the whole series that I had to stop the anime and think for once. I know, crazy.

"People don't die from guns, or diseases, or sick or weak hearts. People die when they are forgotten."

Word up.

And when I think of a quote of my own, I'll hit ya'll back with it.

flamecca 02-15-2009 07:35 AM

COool!

I have mine too, I made it myself fo fo fo

"A man can change his DESTINY...but not the REALITY!"

slasher365 02-15-2009 08:08 AM

i got this from my school's agenda XD but its actually really good in my opinion so here it is:

"People might forget what you say to them and people might forget what you did for them but people will never forget how you made them feel"

superheel 02-15-2009 08:13 AM

I have a quote that guides me everyday and will guide me forever.

"Drugs are for LOSERS."

deathvalleygirl 02-15-2009 08:25 AM

"What is spoken flies, what is written down never dies"

HikaruTwin 02-15-2009 08:38 AM

Here are a few I thought of::
"The truth never lies, unless the truth itself is a lie."
"Never regret something that once made you smile."

CarleyGee 02-16-2009 01:51 AM

I'm sure most people have heard of the book "Go Ask Alice"
and I don't know why, but this quote always made me feel
horribly sad and upset.

I think this is how it is..

"Like, here I am in Denver."

Nothing special, but it always bothered me.
Does anyone have quotes that make them
feel like that, and for no apparent reason?

burkhartdesu 02-16-2009 04:26 AM

"What was on that?

Gravy
, was on that."

CarleyGee 03-03-2009 09:56 PM

Another one from Wuthering Heights
(such a great book!)

Nelly: Where were you last night? I'm not putting the question through
idly curiousity, but --
Heathcliff: You are putting the question through very idle curiousity, yet,
I'll answer it. Last night, I was on the threshold of hell. To-day, I am
within sight of my heaven.
I have my eyes on it.

There were so many great quotes in this book, I can't even
begin to go through it and pick them out!

And another one from Go Ask Alice.

"Even now I'm not really sure which parts of myself are real
and which parts are things I've gotten from books."

To me, that's extremely true on my part, even though I do have
a clear view of who I am now, there are times where the characters
in books are just so perfect and sweet and everybody loves them,
that I want to be just like that.

"I used to think I was the only one who felt things, but I really
am one infinitely small part of an aching humanity."

I know that this book wasn't actually written by a teenage girl,
and was actually just "based" on true stories compiled together,
but haven't we all felt like that before? There have been times
that I doubted that everyone else was even real, and that maybe
I was put here just to figure out that I'm the only who who is
actually thinking.

Now, I read a lot of old books, Wuthering Heights was written in
1850 something I think, and another I read was the Good Earth.
As much as most people would find it incredibly boring because
it is mostly descriptions and very little dialogue, it turned into
being one of my favorite books. There is something about this
book that you don't see in books anymore. The way it is written,
the same with Wuthering Heights, is so different, I was drawn in.

This next quote is particularly a favorite.

"It did not do in this life to be too fortunate.
The air and the earth were filled with malignant
spirits who could not endure the happiness
of mortals, especially of such as are poor."

I don't know exactly what it means, but from what I can
understand, it really touches a sensitive part of me. The
greedy people in this world are out of control, and at
times I stop to wonder if there are more good people in
this world, or more bad people?

More later?

Salvanas 03-07-2009 10:51 AM

I was sitting down, and listening to a friend who had problems. She was going on about mistakes, and I remembered one quote which I said, and I liked the sound of it: "You learn via making mistakes. And one thing I've learn't, is to never stop making mistakes"

Not my own, aye. But still. It's true.

CarleyGee 03-09-2009 01:16 AM

The Giver was the first book I had read that really made me think.
I read it when I was in seventh grade, and never had something
been so frightening and interesting at the same time. I hadn't read
anything like it before, it was so deep.

A quote from this book that interests me, and always had, was

"They were satisfied with their lives which had none of the vibrance
his own was taking on. And he was angry at himself, that he could
not change that for them."

Unfortunately, unless you read the book, you wouldn't really
know what this meant, but you can still pick your own meaning
behind it. For me, at times it does seem that I am the only one
who still has morals and was truly happy with my life. I would
look at my friends and see how unhappy they were, and I just
wanted to do anything in my power to give them what I had.

Of course, then there were times were I felt like them, but I
never take for granted what I have.

Now, an anarchist moment is coming up, a quote from my sister actually.

"All politicians are corrupt, greedy . . . and pretty much liers."

That does sound like it would come from somebody in my family, haha.

Now, a while back I discovered a very helpful website.
Thinkexist.com and it's filled with thousands of amazing quotes.

This is one, though I forgot who said it :

“My entire soul is a cry, and all my
work is a commentary on that cry.”

noonboy 03-09-2009 01:38 AM

Me and a friend made this up last night when we were talking about ALabama weather

"The climate is PMSing, they call it global warming so not to embarrass mother nature"

sakari09 03-10-2009 12:23 AM

My friend Denae says some of the most random things, but they always manage to bring a smile to our faces....like this day when we were having 'your mom' jokes:

Nae-chan in the middle of Tommy and JP's battle:
"Your mom is like a Big Mac...she's cheap, greasy, and leaves special sauce all over my car."
Us: (laughing so hard that we fall off the bleachers in the gym)

another classic from Denae:
"Oooh! Papertrail!" (pointing at a trail of rice on the table) "Uh...crap...rice trail!"

some of my own:
"Remove yourself too far from reality and you will drown in fantasy."
"Never take what life gives you, even if it is lemons. You can throw those and make drinks out of them."

CarleyGee 03-10-2009 09:43 PM

Lately, I have been really interested in Buddha.
(Not religiously, but more as a prophet)
Words of Wisdom:

“All that we are is the result of what
we have thought. The mind is everything.
What we think we become.”

“You yourself, as much as anybody
in the entire universe, deserve your
love and affection.”

I actually sent that one to a friend of mine, in hopes of
cheering her up, since she's going through a rough time.
Actually, she's gotten into hard drugs and pretty much
just destroying her future by getting into the wrong crowd.
Even though she's hurt me and my family, by stealing from
us when we let her live with us, I wanted her to know that
she was my bestfriend, and I'll always try and help her.

“Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike;
each has their suffering. Some suffer too much,
others too little.”

There are a lot of spoiled people out there, and then
there are people who have gone through so much crap,
it seems like there is no hope left for them.

A famous story for inspiration:

“An old man is teaching his grandson about life.
‘A fight is going on inside me,’ he said to the boy.
‘It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves.
One wolf is evil. He is anger, envy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment,
inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The
other wolf is good. He is joy, peace, love, hope,
serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy,
generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same
fight is going on inside you—and inside every other
person, too.’

“The grandson thought about it for a minute and then
asked his grandfather, ‘Which wolf will win?’

“The old man replied simply, ‘The one you feed.’

From the book, Jeremy Fink and The Meaning of Life.
For me anyway, it was really deep to be a kid's book.

"Until recently, I thought it was death
that gave meaning to life - that having
an endpoint is what spurred us on to
embrace life while we had it. But I was
wrong. It isn't death that give meaning
to life. LIFE gives meaning to life. The
answer to the meaning of life is hidden
right there inside the question."

We've all thought about the meaning of life before.
We all have different thoughts on it as well. For me,
I think I am here to make a difference in somebody's
life and help them from going down the wrong path.
Even if just one person, I know that my existence
wasn't useless. I hope to make a difference in other
countries as well. One of my biggest goals is to help
the homeless and the hungry in my own country, and
in other one's as well.

From Girl, Interrupted, another one of my favorite books.

"Scar tissue has no character. It's not like skin.
It doesn't show age or illness or pallor or tan.
It has no pores, no hair, no wrinkles. It's like a
slip cover. It shields and disguises what's beneath.
That's why we grow it; we have something to hide.
"

I hide a lot of who I am. I've kept a lot of things
inside, even from my family. And everyone has
probably at least once hidden their true emotions.

Though I hate to have such a depressing entry,
so I'll leave off with a cheery quote.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Aniki 03-12-2009 03:35 PM

Reality - is just another illiusion... and the most boring one of all.

Sublymonal 03-12-2009 06:15 PM

The supreme prayer of my heart is not to be learned, rich, famous, powerful, or "good", but simply to be radiant. I desire to radiate health, cheerfulness, calm courage, and good will. I wish to live without hate, whim, jealousy, envy, fear. I wish to be simple, honest, frank, natural, clean in mind and clean in body, unaffected - as ready to say "I do not know", if it be so, and to meet all men on an absolute equality - to face any obstacle and meet every difficulty unabashed and unafraid.
I wish others to live their lives, too - up to their highest, fullest, and best. To that end I pray that I may never meddle, interfere, dictate, give advice that is not wanted, or assist when my services are not needed. If I can help people, I'll do it by giving them a chance to help themselves; and if I can uplift or inspire, let it be by example, inference, and suggestion, rather than by injunction and dictation. That is to say, I desire to be radiant - to radiate life.

That's my favourite passage.

Some more good ones:

"I have been trying to teach myself Latin. Not going too well, mostly because my teacher sucks." - Cactus

"Utinam barbari spatium proprium tuum invadant!" - Yelled by myself at my Latin teacher [Translates to: "May barbarians invade your personal space!"]
