Trust me, this is a testy issue in the States with some people.

When I changed my son in front of a friend of my spouse's, she gasped and asked me when I would be getting him cut. When I replied: NEVER, she was disgusted and proceeded to tell me how it's gross to be uncut.

That's just one example, I've had several experiences here like that and I don't want people talking that kind of junk around my son when he gets older and if he gets involved in sports.

It is supposed to be more hygenic but I don't care.

(Maybe once I'm sexually active-I might)

I'm circumsized the only thing I worry about is if I go to Japan and happen to be at a public bath would I get looks (besides me being a gaijin) but also circumsized.

Another reason I ask, aside from pesky folks, is because of doctors here in the US.

When my son was born, we were asked about 20 times if we wanted him circumcised, despite the fact that our birth plan stated "NO CIRCUMCISION." Every nurse and doctor kept asking, "He's not circumcised. You don't want him circumcised?"

And then pediatricians feel the need to advise me that my son is "more at risk".

I'd just like to avoid this circumcising mindset.

I'll tell you a myth, my mom told me....

If you don't circumcise he'll become gay.......*crickets*

as far as I know....my kids haven't yet. I've got two teen boys non-circumsized.

I only see it as a religious thing....that they be circumsized by 8 days old, so they could be looked upon by god in good faith....blah, blah, blah.

People here in the U.S. that have asked me about it get an answer,

"that's way more 411 than you really need, pervert."

:D I really do answer like that.

So, if you haven't and you don't want to....then don't.

O_O Oh...my. That's something I've never heard. It's completely ridicules because you don't just 'become' gay.

Directed towards the thread and topic: Personally, even though I myself would get my son circumcised if and when I had a son, I find the whole issue a double edged sword. There are going to be people out there who are against you trimmin' up your son's willy, and then there are some who are goin' to insist you get it done as soon as possible. Really, it isn't anyones business but your own and no one should tell you other wise.

Leave your son be.. Jeez. Let him decide when he gets old enough to think about that.

Well, you were dealing with a bitch and I'm sure if you didn't recycle she'd call you a planet murderer.

It's never been an issue for me or anyone I've known, but I live in CA and we're a lot more easygoing here. This lady sounds rather judgemental.

I've read that Japan is a non-circumcising country and culture, is this true? I hope so.

I would say it is definitely true.

Having said that, I would get him done ASAP before he gets much older and the foreskin tighter.

Definitely have him done in the US, BEFORE you come to Japan.

NO! I think the people in the bath will envy you if you expose full view, besides, it's proven to be much cleaner, can stop diseases, and surveys done prove that girls enjoy a circumcisioned penis a lot more, as do men.
