About instructions when registering

I'm sorry about this being one of my first post in this forum but I know that if i don't do it now I'll forget.

It's about when you choose your user name. It'd be great if you could give advice just as what charcaters are not permitted (as _, or -) and how long is the string containing the user name ^__^
