Agreed. Even I (being a pocky peasant) have noticed certain words being used frequently in anime, and from the subtitling watched afterwards, I connect English meaning and Japanese speaking (though of course, not the written word) together.

As a result, the times I watch the raw Japanese episodes I pick out the occasional word and know roughly what it means before I watch the subtitled version.

As for the thread topic, I would vote "doesn't matter" as both dubbed language and subtitled language have unique experiences to offer. Subtitled I hear not only the words but the emphasis behind them, the original experience. Dubbed, I see how references can change to make more sense to Western audiences along with how having a different voice once again offers a different experience.

I haven't watched the DVDs recently, but the example of that I can put forward is the voice actress for the "Nerine" character in Shuffle.

Also, having both subbed and dubbed versions of anime available means I can watch each episode at least twice and add more value to the experience

MMM, I didn't say dubs are more accurate then subs (you're twisting my words again). Now, I don't know which subs are referring to, but I was referring to fansubs, which aren't always translated right, not to mention some even have grammar mistakes. And even if you compare them with fandubs, I would still choose the dubs (but then again, the fandubs are the same as fansubs since they don't bother to match up with the mouth movements).

It really depends on quality of fansubs. Dattebayo is top-notch imo and there are plenty good fansubbers out there, with no mistakes at all.

I didn't realize we were talking about fansubs. I assumed we were talking about the regular pro-subs and dubs.

I like sub better but its not horrible to watch dub... but I try only to watch sub

I like both, for some animes the dubbed voices sound quite odd or don't fit the character sometimes so then i prefer a sub, but if the voices sound fine then i shall watch a dub. I used to watch quite a few subbed animes.

i would say dub, since it's easier for me to watch.

i'm also not a big fan of sub when it comes to anime. since i would prefer it in english.

A lot of TV stations use Dattebayo's subs. What do you consider pro?

Short answer is both. Just talking about professional stuff, not fansubs, I generally won't buy something if it doesn't have dual audio, which is rare (in stuff officially released on this side). Not because I need both but because all the releases today have it, so not having it is lazy. I see nothing wrong with dubs if done well, which today is most all major releases. But to be missing the original track seems lacking. I know I can't fluently understand spoken Japanese in real time, so I don't have to pretend like I do, who cares. But if I absolutely had to choose only for for some strange reason, I would go with English if it was a quality dub; although back when you only had one choice in the medium (tapes), [most] dubs were crap and I would not prefer, no debate needed. So it's moot.

Obviously only for animated content. For live action stuff, I really, really hate dubs in any language.
