My mom hates anime and my grandma one time came into my room (that I share with my sister), looked around at all the anime DVD's we had piled here and there, and went, "Arent you guys a little OLD for cartoons?" ::sigh:: so I started ranting at her. Its the only way to get through to her. Key moment was when I said, "You wouldn't give a crap if I was obsessed with Looney Toons." she makes me mad ~.~
She's also made me feel bad for playing video games. Such a hypocrite... she plays video games! Wth..? Shes just mean. When I went to school, I never told anyone I was obsessed with anime though :x I was ashamed then... but now I tell everyone that amongst my likes and dislikes, I love anime and manga ^.^ |

I have no problems with people who don't like anime or anything. AS LONG AS they do NOT try to insult it in any way or discriminate against it. If you wanna pass a comment about anime, try watching one full series before doing so. People who don't even make an effort to try CANNOT be classified as having "different and unique tastes". That's just plain dumb.
Oh and ensoninoue1, I thank you for your opinions and I agree with them, though I cant say for sure if this was even controversial enough to be an argument in the first place as you were speaking from a logical standpoint Reminder: People, keep it civil... Or else...... There's no such thing as happy endings, for when you find true love, happiness is everlasting.

No one bothers me about watching anime I pretty much get left alone to watch it. Everyonce in awhile my wife comes in in the middle of a show and is like WTF?!? but I do the same when she is watching Real Housewives of the OC or something like that. Its not her thing and that isn't my thing so we smirk at the oddness of one another and go on our way... (most of the time)...lol |

It's a slowly changing attitude I'ld say, to each his own tastes naturally (and a good thing too, things might get boring if everyone starts to like the same things) but more people are coming into contact with parts of Asian culture, hard to like something you've never seen or heard.
Took a couple of decades, but manga is finally being translated in Dutch for instance. Before that it was either French or English, the latter being imports and quite expensive. There is however a remaining attitude in general that comics, cartoons, BD's or anything like that are for kids. Despite the fact that there are plenty of comics that are for a mature audience (not for any 'adult' content) and that most adults enjoy a good comic as much as any kid. (or almost anyway) To be honest, when parents see their kids watching Japanese cartoons like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh or Dragonball Z, it might have made them decide that all anime and manga is like that. (no offense btw, those three were the first that came to mind!) |

You're right, it is changing. Most people I talk to these days have watched some anime. Alot of them have only seen Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, SailorMoon... not that those are bad :P
... I used to love SailorMoon, but when I tried to watch it a few months ago, I really didn't like it o.O but thats going off topic. hehe |
