i was lucky, at my old high school school we had like almost 30 people in our anime club and only half were crazy yaoi fangirls
but what really ticks me off is when they say they dont like it because they say its all porn/hentai

It's an attention span iss . . .

sorry, as I was saying,
. . . issue. In the case of the average North American--hey look it snowing out, how pretty . . .

oh yeah,
. . . the average North American's attention span as it relates to cartoons is eleven minutes--I guess I'm going to have to dig out the driveway, again . . .

anyway,
. . . occasionally our attention can last for a twenty-two minute show provided we get enough ads to fill in the remaining of the time. This is to keep our collective heads from exploding due to information overload should we have to concentrate for more than five minutes--now where did I put the snow blower . . .

oops,
. . . To ask the average North American to pay attention and then retain the plot threads that develop over a twelve or twenty-four episode story arch is akin to expecting real talent from a boy band or pop-princess--speaking of pop-princesses, did you hear the latest about . . .

where was I,
. . . We North Americans have had our attention spans whittled down by fast food and empty entertainment (American Idol or Survivor anyone?) that our brains can't wrap around the concept of entertainment that requires us to be active participants and the idea that we may need to mull over the questions about life, the universe and everything (thank-you Douglas Adams) that are frequently posed by animes--BESIDES: A LOT OF ANIMES ARE SUBTITLED AND THEY NOT ONLY EXPECT THAT I AM ABLE BUT WILLING TO READ!!!

got to run dnacing with the stars is on. . .

It's not so bad with me, mainly becuase I am for the most part what most people would consider "normal". (PS: I'm not saying I think I'm better at all then anyone else here, but what I mean is that most people view me as being pretty neutral, and not too crazy one way or the other. Boy, are they wrong!) Some non-anime-liking friends have grown to accept it a lot more becuase they now people like me that are pretty into it and aren't the typical anime fan.

I KNOW this sounds like I'm making fun of super-otaku anime fans, so to make it clear I am not ~ ! I love crazy anime fans! I'm one of them! But for some reason people think I'm normal. It doesn't make sense.

Well I have a little of that but it stems mostly off the already ignorant tourists(sry I hate tourists). In Honolulu or Hawaii in general you have a more significant Asian cultural influence, simply becouse you have more Asian people in Hawaii than most places. So Anime and Manga are more accepted and even embraced here. Where I find annoying Anime and Manga haters are when I'm on the beach reading a manga and some hot shot guy from cali or some tourist decides to make fun of me couse I'm an adult who enjoys Manga. At that Point I move and just chalk it up to what I call "Rich Syndrome". And move on.

Well in New York Tourists everywhere is a given...so they don't too much bother mee when I'm out & about but it's reall the ppl that aren't tourist that finds anime/manga weird But I guess it's just something that us otaku or semi-otaku so to speak just have to deal with

I totally agree, no one except my closest friends know I watch anime because if it gets around that you like anime, write fanfics, whatever you'll be messed with untill you graduate. Like for example people (not my friends) I've told I write stories/fanfics they gave me weird looks and walked away. And what's sad is pretty much everyone (except for some) wwho are into anime at my school seem to have a higher maturarity level than the ones who calls them 'cartoons' (*eye twitch*) or makes fun of them. I also don't like how people seem to think only goths or emos only like anime because I'm neither for one. (Same with friends and other kids at the my school).

I agree. I hate people like that. Mostly at school. Freak! Most of the people I know think of China and cheap ass anime when you say Asia, around them. I hate them!
