In my experience. The perception they have of people that like anime/manga are:
~ They are pervs (because they all think that all the anime/manga is hentai)
~ Geeks, rockers, gothics
~ Inmature (They can't understand that someone of 18-24 or more still watch "cartoon"
~ Last resort an American wannabe. Most of the mangas they bring here are translated to english. Spanish is our first language and they have this weird idea that every person that speaks english wants to be American.

Does all of this pisses me off? Of course
People are quickly to criticize what they don't understand and don't know. They should take a moment a learn something about the topic before making a opinion and ultimately a fool of them self.

The only people who let this kind of thing bother them are those who then come on JF to cry their emo tears about how they arent accepted in their current environment and that they would do SO much better in Japan!

I'm sorry for all the bad stuff I said and all the feelings I hurt.. Please forgive me

I don't think they're saying they'd fit in easier if they were in Japan... O.o

Anyway, I've ran into this problem before too. Not much, because I'm not a big anime/manga fan. But enough for it to be quite bothersome.

I try to ignore them, though
Seems to be all you can do.

People are alwas going critisize you, no matter what you do. Either A. There trying to get a response so you'll pay attention to them, or B. They don't understand it. The best way to deal with either of these situations is to ignore them. Don't give them the satisfaction of making you stop reading Manga or Watching Anime on their account.

And I agree with Shadow in the fact that some people think they'll do so much better in Japan, and I was one of them for a really long time. But something I realized was Japan is just like any other place in the world in the fact that people will still critisize you, you still have to pay bills and taxes, and you still have to work hard or even harder in some instances if your going to make it there. I want to go to Japan as an english teacher, and one day a martial arts instuctor too. But once I started to go to collage and working and paying for everthing I have, I realized I had to want it really bad to make it.

I know this has gone on forever but i hope someone gets something out of it.

Haha, I would have loved to smack around a few of my classmates for things they've said to me.

Sadly, I'd probably be locked up in juvey, knowing my school >_>
