I don't even bother telling my family all these 'interesting' things about anime and manga. I'll get nothing but looks if I start talking about it, because they all think it's immature and stuff. My mum doesn't really care, my dad would make some negative comments and my little brother'd just laugh at me for watching anime. Well, he already does. I shouldn't let it get to me too much; he's one of the COUGH!cool -sorry, I had something stuck in my throat there- guys around here, listening hardcore, smoking etc.

It's fine as long as they just let me read and watch it. It's not like I'm getting in their way when I'm watching anime, so it shouldn't be a problem.

When you say "that" do you mean "they"? When you say "waist" do you mean "waste"?

So what is so unbelievable about an adult calling Pokemon, "Pokeman"?

This is probably one of my "holier-than-thou" posts, but check your spelling before chastising people for misspelling.

Anime is a cartoon. It's a Japanese cartoon. There are serious American cartoons too.

The best way to convince her is to suggest she sit down and watch the most serious Japanese anime you can find.

Hmm... I disagree with parents being unable to understand.
It`s not really a parent issue.

It`s an issue of people not being able to understand something they aren`t interested in, period. It`s life. There are hundreds upon thousands of interests and hobbies out there... Not all of them are going to interest everyone. Your parents don`t "get it" simply because it isn`t something that interests them. I`m sure they have interests or hobbies which make no sense to you - but you probably can`t think of many off the top of your head because, well, they simply don`t interest you.

I have quite a few interests which most people couldn`t care less about. And tons of people around me have interests which I find downright laughable. It`s just part of living and coming into contact with other human beings. No matter how much effort is put into "convincing" someone, if they don`t care it`s going to be an effort in futility.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

I attempt to strike a conversation with a parent about serious themes depicted in the animes, without mentioning what they're from, and even plot points. They eventually become interested enough to sit down and watch a few episodes. What's really amusing is when I watch it with subs with my mother, she shouts out the English equivalent to any Japanese words she knows.

I think we'd be more understanding if our kids watch anime then, don't you think?
