The number one anime that was the absolute saddest was Elfen Lied. I cant even choose which episode cause their all so messed up and really got to me.*head tilts towards ground, eyes start to get glossy*, no its coming back all the sad moments

. No, but seriously they were all really sad. They made the Diclonius girls suffer so much.

Want drama & tears in an anime, then try to watch "Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien", the only light episode is the 1st, the rest is sadness untill the end. It's real life based so don't expect fantasy or sci-fi involved, but it has some strong themes.

Hughes' death, Haku's death, Zabuza's death, Lucario's death, one of the very old episode episodes of Poke'mon when Ash was about to leave Pikachu with the wild Pikachu

..... Naruto and Poke'mon have a lot of sad moments for me, even when James had to leave Chimecho behind but obtained Mime Jr.
