Favorite AMVs? *possible spoilers* -
02-26-2007, 11:55 PM
I'm a huge fan of anime music videos. The right song over the right series with good editing can give you chills, reduce you to tears, and even make you crap you pants laughing. A good AMV can make you love a song you used to hate, and even introduce you to a whole new genre of music you never would have even thought to try or didn't know existed.
I'm curious to see what you guys consider to be your favorite AMVs. Best is always reletive, but your favorites are set in stone. Please mark spoilers accordingly. Here is my list. #1 Eureka Seven-The Stripes-Open Your Heart *SPOILERS* Nothing too fancy, straight foreward, but impeccibly well timed editing with some very nice fade transitions. This is not normally a song I would enjoy, but I've watched this vid at least a hundred times and liked it more each time I do. YouTube - EUREKA SEVEN / Open Your Heart (2nd UP) #2 RahXephon-A Perfect Circle-Judith *No Serious Spoilers* mostly fight scene footage. Not only was this a great song choice and cut for cut matches APC's ethereal guitar sounds, but it was done using a brilliantly complex hexagonal tile pattern that mimics the display screen inside the cockpit of the RahXephon, which was a very nice touch when it comes to linking the video to the visual style of the anime itself while still managing to recontexualize the paticular scenes used to fit the lyrics. YouTube - Olin #3 Neon Genesis Evangelion-A Perfect Circle-Count Bodies Like Sheep To The Rythm Of The War Drums *No Serious Spoilers* One of the best examples of editing skill I've yet to see. Though the lyrics are far removed from the feel of NGE, the creator's editing and scene choice are exceptional and blend perfectly. It's like watching a whole different series. YouTube - Evangelion AMV - Nightmare If you havn't guessed I'm a mecha fan. :P More to be added later. AMV THREAD!!! GO!!! |

I went through a phase where I watched at least half the videos on
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/ so it's a tough call. But I'd go with Hellsing-Pompeii and Various-Sierra Lorna-Elvis vs Anime-XviD, which both can be found on the site. Suck it in. I feel it move across my skin. Im reaching up and reaching out. Im reaching for the random or what ever will Bewilder me. What ever will bewilder me. And following our will and wind we may just go where no ones been. We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been. |

Updating my list.
#4 RahXephon-Frou Frou-Euphoria *No Serious Spoilers* Won so many contests I lost count, and it deserves every one of them. Nuff said, watch the vid!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P38ZVmYNkmg #5 Eureka Seven-Spoken-September *SPOILERS!!!* When I said a good AMV could make you like a song you hate, this is what I had in mind. Spoken is a Christian scremo band, which is a paticular type of music I avoid at all costs. This however is a great example of good song choice. The lyrics are very similar to the plot of the series, and so it works. This one is really just for fun, nothing that fancy or original but I like it anyway. YouTube - We Are Not Alone |
