Yeah, i think the japanese version would be better. Although i thought liam neeson(?) was hilarious as the dad of ponyo. I want to hear the song in japanes too, my sis says her japanese students were singing it constantly at school. It was cute..but yeah, it didn't have much substance. I kind of liked howl's moving castle, but they should have practically called it a different name cause it was really different then the book. Which i love...but oh well.

Personally, I think it`s excellent. I`ve only seen the Japanese version, but have to say it`s a wonderful movie. I think it just depends on what you expect.
It has a really good balance of stuff that impresses little kids, and things that someone older can enjoy.

But I also think the setting and the events in it might be a long way off from "normalcy" outside of Japan - stuff that really can`t be localized either in a sub or a dub. Not all that many people in the US grew up in a fishing village with all it`s trappings. Or it might be something you can only appreciate if you have kids - like all the Crayon Shinchan movies, that just elicit sighs from the non-parents while parents are literally weeping. There is one of those my husband can`t even TALK about without starting to cry.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

Aww guy's! Now I really want to see it! I'll make sure to tell everyone my take on it

Was it something I said? Whatever it was, I didn't mean it. I haven't meant anything I've said for years. Except what I just said. I think

That's why I liked it because I'm a child at heart. Going into this film I new it was going to be geared to a younger audience. I also did not expect it to create a whimsical world like Spirited Away or Castle in the Sky. (my personal favorites) However Like I expected You have to watch it a couple of times to see all the details.

I don't think it's better than howl's moving castle . This film is mainly for young audiences. It has a lot of cute and innoncent little boy and little girl moments. i can say that lols. If you don't like childish stuff i wouldn't recommand this film

All my friends loved it, we all think it's downright adorable ^^

I saw it everywhere in convenience and music stores when I was in Japan and had no idea what it was, then I come home and find out the were dubbing it and actually putting it in theaters. My friend Sayuri's mom gave me a copy of the DVD with English subs as a present before I left and I loved it.

There was no way in hell I was seeing a Disney dub, anyway; it'd be butchered. (Yes, I'm bias)

Points for honesty, however:

Quote:
Weaboos. They are the bane of the anime and manga fandom.

If an American dubbing company attempts to dub a japanese cartoon, they say it suxorz even though they have not actually seen it. Weaboos believe dubs butcher their oh so precious cartoons. They fail to see how dubs help expand the anime industry in America.
Yes there are quite a few instances where the dub is intolerable(such as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and the subsequent FFVII games), and the idea of one of another Jonas brother and someone related to Miley Cyrus abhors me, but there are some people who are not interested in learning the language(in the beginning, since at some point they DO become more interested in learning the language, and if you're into yuri, you're forced to watch it with subtitles if you don't know Japanese), and then there are others who don't have the time to read subtitles(like my little brother and sister; they are too young to read it quickly enough and still enjoy themselves, AND they want to see this film).

Also, there are instances when the dub is better than the original Japanese(Chobits and Trinity Blood). While this is an anime, somebody similar to you wrote a letter to Shojo Beat about how much she appreciated their "magazine", because she thought she would NEVER be able to find a decent English translation of the manga she read in her native country(she's Korean, but to my knowledge, you're not Japanese either).

She also reiterated what I have stated, because she went on to say that she noticed that in some cases, the English is actually better than the original(and friends that typically watch anime in Japanese agree with me in that regard). She was especially grateful, because Shojo Beat has helped her improve her English.

Basically, you shouldn't be so negative over something because you like it's country of origin better. Because in that case, I could argue that while Japanese have done videogame consoles and videogames better, videogames actually started in the USA.
