Try to watch:
-Elfen Lied, -Vampire Princess Miyu(pretty old but really great one. I suggest OVA version, but'normal' episodes can do it too...) -Kuroshitsuji is just nice  -Maybe InuYasha(manga is better anyway) And many others- it'll be easier to give examples if you describe your intersts(for eg I really like stuff like vampires, demons, fantasy climats, bishonens:P etc while bio mechanics, mechs and so on aren't my favourites )

I don't really read manga but my favorite anime series are:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Both 1st and 2nd gig. Also the movies are great too) Cowboy Bebop Death Note Code Geass
