I don`t know about the rest of the world, but in Japan the PSP offers a manga service. I don`t use it so I don`t know how quickly they put things up on it, or what the selection is like - but as far as I know it`s fairly decent.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

While I agree with MMM I see an exception if we're talking about scanlating somewhat older works that failed to get a western release, likely never will and there's no other way to present them to a western audience. Yes, I realize it's still illegal and that it'd also be unfair toward the japanese audience who'd still have to pay for it but in this case, if someone was willing to translate them for free (For whatever reason...) I'd be fine with it. It's not like they'd take away potential money.

Though I guess this wasn't the case with One Manga and they hunted down the newest releases before anyone could have officially licensed them.

But in the end, I don't know either way. Never heard of the site before. I guess they also put official english releases online?
How is that silly?? I don't see anything silly about it.

I did use Onemanga, I'm not going to say I didn't, but at the same time, it was sorta in the way Payne222 was using it (reading ahead until the US put out something) or reading it until I had the funds to go back to collecting tangible copies again, like after I lost my job.

An example of the former that comes to mind is when I was reading +Anima. The US only had up to volume 7 at the time, and I was so anxious to know what was going to happen next, I pre-ordered volume 8 and looked for scanlations of it too. lol
So you're saying it's wrong yet you used it when you didn't have the money to get your manga?? That's funny.

Well I'm not a big fan of manga anyway so it doesn't matter to me what happens to site.

Crazy, right? But, I did say that I used it, and I'm not saying I wasn't wrong either. In all honesty, though, I never thought much of it since I still bought whatever I read online anyway. I didn't even think of it as "illegal" until I actually started coming here a few years ago and I guess it's because I did buy most everything I read. Hm, maybe that's why I'm so apathetic over the site shutting down.

Either way, was just saying that's why I used it, and it was mostly for the former argument as opposed to the latter. I used it more so when I was anxious to know what was going to happen next in the story of whatever series I was reading while waiting for its US release. As for reading because of fund reasons, in some ways I couldn't bring myself to do it too much, like with Deathnote. It took me a while, but that's one series I never read scanlated. It just took me a while to collect the full series.

For the most part, seems I used scanlation places for unlicensed works, mostly, or, if I was just anxious to know what was going to happen while waiting for a US release (main series that come to mind are Negima and +Anima).

I am wondering how much of a copyright violation it would be to just offer the translations online. You could read them without the images, but that would be really boring.

Why not just buy the original Japanese manga and then find a translation if you can`t read it? Why does it have to be the full deal with the scan too?

That would even work, but I've never come across a place that actually does that (doesn't really say much, though, since One Manga was the only place I knew). Anywho, I don't know of a place that just puts up translations as opposed to doing the scans along with it. I'd be satisfied with that, personally.

I wouldn't mind getting Kuroshitsuji that way. I just found out that the manga was licensed a while ago, but it'd be cheaper to just buy raws (since I'm here) as opposed to importing it. It has 9 volumes so far. Haven't gotten around to getting it since I haven't seen it around yet.

That's what Manga Helpers does now. They used to post the scans, but they saw the inevitable end of the line, and now they post only the translations. So you can buy the original Japanese somewhere, and then read online as you look at the book.

As to whether or not that is a copyright violation...I don't know. Good question.

I get exactly what you are saying. You got something for free. You got it for free for a long time. Now the gravy train has made its last stop. You are sad.
