People have different preferences, and either way they're still watching it so it doesn't matter.

subs are way better. if ur watching dubbed anime, ur not getting the full experince of the anime, ur getting the extremly censored, tottaly new lines, and, of course, americanized (usually) version. some dubs are ok, but most are tottal shit

Your decision to watch an anime in its dubbed form or subtitled form makes no difference when it comes to who is a "truer" anime fan. Personally, I think so long as you aren't so biased that you aren't open to trying to watch an anime in dubbed/subtitled form, then it doesn't matter.

There are good dubs, and there are bad ones. By the same token, there are good and bad subs too. I have seen TERRIBLE translation jobs. Some of them were fansubs, but others weren't. In fact, there was one anime where, when compared line by line, the DUB was closer to the truth than the subtitles.

Example
Dialogue spoken: Kuso!
Subtitle: No!
Dub: Damn!

It's all a matter of opinion and personal preference.

The ones that are severly changed are the crappy childrens ones. The ones that don't air on public tv or CN's Toonami are completly changed and americanized. But still, even if you do watch that, you can get the full experince if you read the manga. Sometimes even subtitled animes have been completly changed and turned to crap. But stories are essentually the same. You can't take the plot of a story away.

CrimsonNataku - ah ha! Very good point :P I too have seen really bad subtitles. I have Chobits on DVD its comepletely in Japanese ~.~ even the menu. And theres this part was Sumomo tries to say, "I'm in Public mode." but the translators put, "I'm in Pubic mode." which had me and my sister rolling around laughing our asses off for quite some time.

To me it doesn't really matter if the subtitles are bad or not. I understand if it doesn't matter if you watch the subbed or dubbed version but I still would pefer subtitles because sometimes in the dubbed version the character have these kinda corny dialog, or something like that. But anyways still it doesn't matter because I say the best channel to watch the dubbed version of anime is on Cartoon Network or on any other channels with anime. On Cartoon Netork they brought back Dragonball Z and this time it was uncut.

i think it doesnt matter whether it is a sub or a dub, it is whether the essence of the anime is kept.
Studio Ghibli dubs are so good after watching any of their movies i can't remember what language it was in.
I do prefer subs though and if i have a choice i will always watch subs because dubs lose soooooooo much of the japanese culture and references to other japanese popular culture.
Naruto does NOT say "believe it"
that is the lamest catchphrase ever. and the dubbed voice is way too annoying.
bad dubs is why mainstream pop culture sees anime as just kids shows because the american versions of many good animes are just that. dumbed down for kids. its sad.

if u alwsays watch dubs though u dont know what you're missing out on

Well I won't say your way is wrong because we all have our own way of thinking but when you hear the characters talk in the english you know that's not their real voice. I use to think the same way when I watch DBZ but I realize the japanese voice are better because that's how they really sound. Also it fits their character but don't get me wrong some english version the character have good voice that match their character. Another thing is have you heard anime in another language like spanish or german. But still I undersstand what your saying and I don't disagree with you.
