I really like Patlabor. The first couple of films were good though I didn't rate the third one. I always thought the series was meant to show how giant robots could realistically fit into modern day life, so the whole giant monster thing was a bit out of place.

Anyway, the TV series is also just as good, but very different - less thoughtful but with a lot of humour thrown in. I don't think people rate it much though. The third boxset (eps. 37-47) isn't available on Amazon and the manga sold badly in America and was cancelled. Real shame.

Has anyone seen the OVA's? I think I read that episodes in the original series reappeared in the TV series so I figure it's not worth owning both. Could be wrong though.

Maison Ikkoku - I generally hate romance and not a big fan of comedy but I liked this series (mainly 'cos I used to be a hard up single student myself), again with many long series I gave up on about volume 10 with the manga as it was getting repetitive and I knew how it would end anyway.

Couldn't be bothered with Inu Yasha, but loved the Mermaid series (as a manga). I kind of liked the anime but the monsters were more comedy than horror, though I'd highly recommend it anyway.
I never thought her work was that repetative but since a lot of people do, Im going to write the folowing assuming that you do...

I never thought of Ranma as very adult. Yes, it was repetative. But I never care about any of that. The plot was irelavent to me. I just liked the humor. If it can make me laugh, then good by me. So yea I do LOVE ranma.

Maison Ikkoku is SO funny Its unbearable. Its probably her most grown up manga. I love comedy, but not romance, unless it goes a long with comedy or action. Maison Ikkoku is probably the only shojou manga I can stand to read. If you already read the first 10 even if it did get repetative I think its worth it to finish just 5 more.

Mermaid saga is amazing. I never saw either the anime or manga as horror. I know they are suposed to be horror but they seem more action/drama to me.

I highly recomend InuYasha. Its my favorite of her work. Its much less adult then Maison Ikkoku in terms of story and plot, but in terms of content InuYasha has the most of violants, and gore, (there is a lot of nudity too but Im not sure if it can compete with ranma or mermaid in terms of nudity) Anyway I love the characters, storys, humour, violants, etc.

She rights some nice short storys, mostly slice of life, some humour, also alot of horror, (she is actualy really good at horror if she just tried it more)

I thought the manga was going to be a retelling of the story but there was such a great twist only a few pages in, well worth a look. Will have to check out Elfen Lied... I found the characters too annoying in the anime but they may come across better in the manga.

Anyway I'm about to check out "The Big O". Giant Robo is one of my favourite all time series though I was really disappointed with Tetsujin 28, Robo just had so much more depth to it.

I loved the manga of Jisatsu circle, it was really interesting to see somthing diffrent from the film. I loved them both, but some parts in the film were more laughable then scary, but maybe they did that on purpose? Some directors make horror movies that are scary and funny...but somtimes Im not sure if they are trying to be funny or if they are trying to be scary. They both have a really cool strange trippieness to them.

If you found the anime characters anoying then you will probably feel the same about the manga. They act the same way. (although you dont have to listen to the manga characters screaming) They also introduce other characters that would come off as anoying (if you find the other characters anoying). I think if you didnt like the anime you wouldnt like the manga. I thought the anime was MUCH better then the manga. Although a the manga goes beyonde the point where the anime ends. There are some REALLY cool diclonious that apear and some REALLY cool fight seens. And Nyuu learns to talk (making her less anoying). So its worth reading for that, but the stuff that happend in the manga seemed so much of a strech that It was impossible to beleive, and the stuff they say, and they way they phrase it, and the way they move about and do stuff so just so awkwerd and weird.

Voltron
Hellsing Ultimate
Basilisk
Trinity Blood
Excel Saga
Witch Hunter Robin
Burst Angel
Gatchaman

All I can think of off the top of my head.

Akira is a great movie. A little long though. I really liked the trippy moments.
Ninja Scroll is SO cool! i LOVE it! Nice gore, really weird.
I have only seen Vampire hunter D: Bloodlust. It had buetifull animation and was really cool and gory.
Princess Mononkoke is a great Miyazaki movie. Is it just me, or was it trying to be child apropriat and adult content at the same time?

Fullmetal Alchemist is a cool sereise. Hiromuo Arakawa is really talented.
HELLSING ULTIMATE KICKS ASS!!! LOVE the gore!
I loved the Basalisk manga. I didnt like the anime as much as I thought I would. I guess I was expecting more from the animation. Since the manga art was so exelent I was expecting the animation to be somthing special but it was just average.
Trinity Blood was GREAT at the begining and at the end, everything in the middle was boring.
Excel Saga is so fucking funny, I cant stand it.

Its very gory and sexual and cool. It could be considerd offensive I guess especially if you are religouse. I dont think it was crappily done...so maybe...everyone was just really offended. Has anyone seen this? What did you think?

That's a great list, ILOVEJAPAN.

I am in the middle of TANPENSHU Vol. 2 (of 2) and it is a very thoughtful and moving (and erotic, and violent) collection of short manga stories. I really can't recommend it enough.

Tanpenshu is a 2-volume series by the creator of Eden. It is a series of short stories. Some are autobiographical, some about yakuza, some about alternate realities... but almost all are very heavy and thoughtful.
