How can you ask if we're ready?
Of course we're not.
But were we ready for slavery to end?
Were we ready for Civil war?
Were we ready for the civil rights movement?
Nah. We weren't but they happened for the better good.

Point being you can't let the bad overcome the good.
So when good comes you have to grasp it no matter at what time it may be.
A woman or black president would be proof that society has truly opened up.

Don't be so negative.
Older Americans tend to " care" more for war. ( As in they think it's necessary for their safety not that they like it.)
And by older I mean 40+
Most people I know ( which I live in one of the most conservative places in america ) want Obama.
McCain is not that bad of a guy. He's fairly intelligent and has a heartful. I wouldn't even dare compare him to Bush.

Please learn to stay away from stereotypes and assumptions.
They make the hate spread faster. :/

Excuse me, did you suddenly forget that Bush was elected TWICE, the second time AFTER he proved himself to be an ape in disguise?
So yes, anything is possible and being cautious is the most realistic choice anyone can make especially with the past trend of voting.
The system of voting in America doesn't exactly instill confidence anyway, so one can only assume the worst.

Ivon: I've decided to overlook your post. Mostly because I'm dealing with people from both sides. People who hate Americans and constantly assume the worst and Americans who fit those assumptions, which in the end becomes very hard to try and argue with both sides.

He was elected twice because of 9/11. The last thing on most peoples minds was who to be president they simply wanted revenge and protection which he seemed to guarantee at the time.

Bush, was a bad idea but what him being in office did do was open alot more peoples minds to the thought of cooruption in the government.
It made alot of Americans realize heading right in, which seemed to work in the past, is not necessarily the best option.
So to answer your question; Yes, Americans have changed a great deal. Hopefully it'll show before we all get blown to peices. Lol.

Conservative politicians do, yes. American people? No. The majoritiy of Americans want out of Iraq and think we never should have been there in the first place.

I disagree Evev the start of that was do to from when clinton was in office leading to bush so as to the problem was coming since then. Becuase everyone wants a ronald r .

But just because bama looks like mr nice dont mean he exactly he is and he is a smooth talker so he can slide past anything.Plus we are not always looking for a fight .

I don't want to get into a policical argument, but the America of 2004 and the America of 2008 is very different. Bush won on a campaign of fear, not popularity. "Vote for me. I'll protect you." At that time the number one issue was Terrorism. It wasn't long after 9/11 and he was engaging who, at that time, we thought was the enemy.

Now the number one issue is the economy, not terrorism. Bush's policies have literally sent 100's of thousands of jobs overseas, millions have lost their homes. Gas prices are up over 300% since he took office, and we give tax breaks to the oil companies which made records profits in the 10s of billions in the first THREE MONTHS of 2008 alone. The American people see this and are sick of it. It's not just me saying it. Bush has the lowest approval rating of a president EVER right now. That wasn't true four years ago.

So that's why they would change now.
