If I wear my braids, you don't wash your hair, you use this cleaning treatment and spray on the scalp. If you do wash your hair with braids, it frizzes up. That's why I was wondering. For the record, I'm African American, so I was wondering how that worked for those with our hair type.
It probably would depend on the hair type - but as there really aren`t all that many people of African descent in Japan, it is usual to wash your hair thoroughly before getting in.

However, you don`t put your head into the water. All long as you aren`t oozing something from your scalp (if that is the case, well, obviously you should be going to a doctor not a bath! ), and put a towel over your head when you get in, I *highly* doubt anyone would complain. It`s fairly common to take more than one bath a day if you`re in an onsen area (for the refreshing effects) only washing your hair once. You always want to scrub your body down though. If your hair is long enough to touch the water, just be sure that you have it up in some way so that it doesn`t.

If your hair reacts strongly to humidity though, it could be a problem as there is a LOT of steam.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

For me, I only wash my hair once a week or either every two weeks. I usually stick to every week. If I were to wash it thoroughly every day, that would wash the perm out and dry out the scalp. I'm going to assume it's a black thing since I don't know any African American who washes her hair everyday. It's always, "Oh, I wash mine every Saturday" or "I wash mine every other week."

Definitely. Glad I don't actually have that type of problem.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I hope that if I get to go next year, that I get to experience going to an onsen. Screw the nudity issue. I've always wanted to try it. lol If I get into the program, I hope I can make some friends and not forget all of my etiquette rules and if they take a trip at like a Ryokan I get invited along.

Only if I don't have it permed.

Exactly. I'd not be comfortable at all and that is why I wouldn't put myself in that situation. It's rather like walking through a bad part of town at night, with a wad of cash.
Anyway, I'm no girl but even being a guy requires a certain amount of modesty, nevermind how big your junk may be.

Lol at all the guys bragging about their "junk".

You do know that Onsen are seperated right? And it's not like you're going to be walking round with an erection.... well at least I hope not.
