well in taiwan, the main language is mandarin, with a few odd differences in words. so they speak chinese. Theres a difference in reading and writing too, they use traditional chinese characters, like Southern China, but most of the mainland use simplified. Taiwan has been known as part of China, but many taiwanese disagree and want to be their own country, but there are also taiwanese that agrees with being with China. I think, recently they've had some sort of economic agreement but i wouldn't count on it lasting. The historical ties with Taiwan and China are too big to overcome. I just use Taiwanese and Chinese to avoid conflicts. Taiwanese of chinese heritage would be the correct term. But that's all politics and i'm too tired to get into that now.
